iOS has become quite the home to Capcom's Ace Attorney franchise. Initially we had the HD Trilogy [Free] release that brought 3 amazing Nintendo DS games to modern devices and it is absolutely a must play. Capcom then released Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney Dual Destinies [$0.99] which is the 5th numbered entry in the franchise. Apollo Justice [$0.99] is the 4th and that finally made its way to iOS a few months ago.

The only English release we are missing at this point is Spirit of Justice which is Ace Attorney 6. There are a few Japanese only releases for DS and 3DS and the biggest release that hasn't been localised for 3DS is Dai Gyakuten Saiban (The Great Ace Attorney). This is finally available on the App Store and Google Play in Japan. A localisation is still unlikely given the Sherlock Holmes and Watson characters and the legalities involving those names. Watch the announcement trailer for the Nintendo 3DS version from back in 2014 below:

If you'd like to check it out in Japanese on the Japanese App Store, go ahead because it is available now. The Google Play version is a premium release at around $23 and you can check that out here.

Isn't Sherlock Holmes in the public domain? I'm pretty sure it is.

    • Shaun Musgrave

It's complicated. He's mostly in the public domain, except for particular things connected to his later stories. But the Doyle estate is infamously litigious and Capcom Japan likely has zero desire to go to court over a game that would probably sell under 100k copies, even if they would almost certainly win. Note that this is only an issue in the US due to the ridiculously long copyright period there, which continues to get longer all the time in order to keep Mickey Mouse from becoming public domain.

I want this localised SOOOOOO BAAAAAD :'(

Ahh boo.. iPhone is sooo perfect for the Phoenix Wright games. I've had a BLAST with the trilogy and Duel Destinies.
I've slightly hesitant on scooping up Apollo Justice as I've read a lot of iOS reviews saying it crashes regularly, bugs out A LOT and doesn't allow saves in chapter (which sounds like BS to me).

Anyone able to shed any light on any of my concerns with AJ?

I didnt play it yet on iOS, but if that can make you feel better, as a huge Ace Attorney fan, Apollo Justice is by far the worse game in the series IMO (its not terrible, but nowhere near as good as the others)
