‘Adventure Game’ is a Metroidvania that Pokes Fun at Adventure Games, Coming in October

There’s nothing I like more than some good old-fashioned tongue-in-cheek humor that pokes fun at video game tropes. One developer is hoping to take the piss out of the adventure game genre by way of an adventure-laden metroidvania platformer. The game is called Adventure Game, a humorously generic title if I ever heard one, and it stars a young adventurer named Adalbert who thinks he can get started in his adventuring career by tackling an entry-level adventure at a place called the Harmless Castle of Total Fun. As expected, the castle is neither harmless nor filled with total fun and Adalbert quickly finds himself fighting for his life against the castle’s many traps and monster tangerines. Yes, the enemies are mutant tangerine monsters because why not?

In addition to the mutant tangerines there are also regular tangerines which Adalbert must collect in order to get his Vitamin T. That’s how that works, right? The evil castle is also filled with all sorts of puzzles to solve and lots of dangerous things to die on. And you’re going to be dying a lot it seems. Also, I just love the charm of the visuals and that completely dorky adventurer outfit Adalbert is wearing. I must have one for myself! There’s plenty more to the story of Adalbert, and PLENTY more animated .gifs of the game in its forum thread, so head on over there and give it a look and keep an eye out for Adventure Game to launch this coming October.
