Best iPhone Game Updates: ‘Footy Golf’, ‘Candy Crush Saga’, ‘Hidden Folks’, ‘The Escapists’, and More

TouchArcade Rating:

Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. In addition to a bunch of 64-bit updates, regular updates keep on rolling in at a steady rate. I’ve found some of the most interesting ones for you to take a look at as you enjoy your morning tankard of ale. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself using AppShopper Social (Free), the watchlist in the TouchArcade App (Free), or by participating in the TouchArcade forums, but this weekly summary is here to fill in the things you might have missed. Let’s dig in!

Yōdanji: The Roguelike, $2.99 Seeing a Kemco-published RPG getting updated with something more than bug fixes is a rare sight, but here we are. Yodanji now has some rudimentary support for controllers and keyboards, though I haven’t tested to see how well they work. The UI has gotten some tweaks, and the rules for Gentle Grass and Spiky Shrubs have been altered somewhat. There are also some new rooms, so even if you think you’ve seen everything in this game already, there are now new experiences to be had. Neat.

Footy Golf, Free Footy Golf has a whole new world of levels to play set in space, which is a pretty good place to play kick-golf, I suspect. There are also some new Ball Booster upgrades that you can use on any of the balls you’ve unlocked. If you’ve bought the premium upgrade IAP, you can also enjoy a new feature that shows your best path on any stages you’ve set a record on. Early though this may be, I’m going to award this game the coveted UMMSMotW prize for this week.

Hidden Folks, $4.99 Searching for a particular thing in a picture full of things: a popular past-time that had its biggest period in the 1990s. Hidden Folks is a pretty good version of that sort of thing, but like its dead-tree ancestors, it eventually runs out of content. But hey, good news! The game got an update that adds more stuff to do. Specifically, there are three new areas to explore. Good luck finding all the stuff, and remember, if you see Wally and/or Waldo, blow on a whistle and your nearest law enforcement agent will come at once.

Trials Frontier, Free Well, I have to give it points for longevity. Trials Frontier‘s been around for a while now, and it’s gotten pretty consistently updated in that time. The latest version adds a new event called the Bandito Rally Challenge, where you can hop aboard a new Tier 1 speed bike known as The Bandito. The event cover three weekly legs of ten tracks each, so you’ll need to bring out your best if you want to show up in the leaderboards. Also in this update: bug fixes. Yeah, that’s right.

The Escapists: Prison Escape, $0.99 Alcatraz. Possibly the most-escaped-from prison ever represented in fiction? For the reputation it carries, it sure seems like anytime it crops up in a movie or game, someone’s getting out of there. I guess that’s what happens when you turn your prison into a tourist attraction without, like, guards or anything. But there are guards in this version of Alcatraz, because it’s now a level in The Escapists. And escaping just isn’t much fun unless it’s a bit tricky, so there you go. Nicolas Cage and Sean Connery not included. Unfortunately.

Gangstar Vegas - Mafia action, Free I figured with the successor to this game out, that would be the end of updates for Gangstar Vegas, but the soul still burns, apparently. So, new content. The second and third levels of the Osteo-X Medium Exoskeleton are now available. There are also a bunch of silly new costumes to try out, a sci-fi inspired flying machine called the Strikewind, and a new Quillgun weapon that may or may not have some relation to the Needler. Wanted mode has been made more difficult, some cars will now have armed passengers inside to deter would-be jackers, and all sniper rifles can now zoom at different levels. That all sounds pretty good?

Slayaway Camp, $2.99 Hey paisanos! It’s the Super Summer Slasher Slayaway Camp Update Show! It’s Slayaway Camp, and killing’s the game, it’s not like the others that get all the fame! If you’ve cleared it no trouble, you can update on the double. Puzzles designed by fiends, you’ll be hooked on Deleted Scenes! You’re in for a treat, so hang on to your seat. Get ready for iMessage stickers and some other cool feats! There’s new filters, killers, bunnies, and tweaks, hanging with the campers, you’ll be hooked on killing freaks! To the brink!

He-Manâ„¢ Tappers of Grayskullâ„¢, Free Okay, let’s pretend all that unpleasantness just now was me doing a 1980s reference to segue into this one. Anyway, as is the case for many a He-Man thing, it was only a matter of time before Superior She-Ra showed up. That’s right. For the honor of love. By the powers above. She-Ra has the power and she’s brought 13 nasty Horde enemies with her. But worry not! She’s also got four new allies with her, but I don’t know if that includes Bow or not. Nor am I sure if I’d want Bow or not. Confusing feelings on that guy. There are 36 new artifacts for She-Ra alone, plus 8 new artifacts that she shares with her brother, He-Man. Some other stuff too, but I fear I’ve already tipped my secret She-Ra fan card too much already, so let’s just end this here.

Candy Crush Saga, Free I’m sure I’ve mentioned this before, but King doesn’t even try with the update notes for this game anymore. They used to say how many new levels there were, give the name of the new episode, maybe mention the new gimmicks, and brag about the total number of levels. Now they just have a general message saying that new levels arrive every week. I guess once you pass seventeen billion levels or whatever it stops having much meaning. You’re either hooked or not at this point. Oh well. Here it is.

Templar Battleforce Elite, $9.99 Okay, look, to tell the truth, this isn’t a very big update. But I refuse to end things on that Candy Crush note, so here we are. Templar Battleforce, which is a very good game that you should buy, has been updated to add a full combat log, allowing you to check out all the grisly mathematical details behind your victories and defeats at your leisure. This update also fixes some bugs and allows me to remind you to buy it. Good feature, that last one.

That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
