‘Sailor Moon Drops’ Celebrates its One-Year Anniversary with a Special Event

TouchArcade Rating:

Okay, look. Regular readers know that I am of the Canadian persuasion, and if you are a Canuck of a certain age, you probably have a moderately unhealthy appreciation for Sailor Moon, the highly influential series of anime and manga about a magical teenage girl from the moon, her talking moon cat, and a useless guy in a tuxedo who shows up when the heroine is in a pinch and offers only platitudes as support. I’m not going to apologize or make excuses. It’s silly trash and I constantly skipped out early for lunch in high school so that I could go home and watch it on YTV. Taped the whole series onto VHS tapes and everything. Even made a custom box to keep them in. Printed a picture for it just to give it the authentic look.

Ugh. Jared thought it would be pretty funny if I shared this secret shame of mine with you. But now it’s all awkward for everyone, isn’t it? Well, whatever. The point is, I like Sailor Moon, and there’s a Sailor Moon knock-off of Candy Crush on the App Store called Sailor Moon Drops (Free). I play it almost every day and have collected all of the characters and have diligently leveled them up even though I only ever use Rei because she’s the best. I will brook no opposition on that point, particularly if you are a filthy Mina fan.

This game has been out for a full year now, it seems. I know this because they are having a one-year anniversary event to celebrate this milestone. They’re handing out level-up badges like candy, discounting gem purchases, and running a special event where you can unlock a variant of Sailor Moon in her Princess Serenity form. Princess Serenity was already in the game, but this is a special silver variant, so you know you want that. You can unlock her in the usual way this game does new characters. You have to complete special courses of stages on progressively higher difficulty settings. You’ll unlock lots of bonus power-ups and other goodies, and eventually net Princess Serenity. After you get her, you can continue playing to unlock her full level potential.

Are you happy, Jared? Does it make you feel good to see me baring my darkest secrets for everyone to see? If you want to join me in my mad pursuits, you can download Sailor Moon Drops and join in on the anniversary event. Please be aware that it is just like Candy Crush but with special powers that you can unleash every so often. But it has pretty good fan service and tells the story of the series more coherently than the DiC dub did, so I guess it has that going for it. Tuxedo Mask remains useless. Anyway, if you choose to play, don’t say I didn’t warn you.
