Both ‘Oddworld’ Games are on Sale for Their Lowest Prices Yet

TouchArcade Rating:

We live in some truly weird times these days, but to chop up an old saying for my own nefarious purposes: when the going gets odd, the strange get stranger. Sorry, that seemed funnier in my head. The important thing here is that you can pick up both of the Oddworld games for $0.99 each for the next few days. Yes, two bucks will get you two very well-done ports of full-blown console games, now easy to enjoy anywhere. It’s an absurd price for such content-stuffed games, so you’d best take advantage of it.

Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee ($2.99) was in its time best known for making a controversial hop from the PlayStation 2 to the upcoming Xbox. It’s weird that such a humble little fellow like Munch became the center of such controversy, but time washes away all wounds. Players of all types can now get stuck into this sometimes rough, but always charming 3D platforming adventure game without betraying their chosen brand. It’s a very ambitious game that came out during a period where a lot of the rules of 3D action games were still being sorted out, and it shows, but if you can put up with a few issues, you’ll find a lot to love in this game. Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath ($2.99) is an unusual hybrid of 3D platforming and shooting that puts you in the role of the Stranger, sort of an Oddworld proxy to Eastwood’s Man With No Name. The Oddworld elements are blended in with a delicious Old West flavor to create an amazing atmosphere, and the gameplay is easily the best the Oddworld Inhabitants have ever cooked up. This game has been criminally overlooked since its initial release on Xbox, and although the virtual controls can take a little wrangling, this is a must-have title at this price. We gave it a five-star review back when it launched on iOS.

Both games are high-quality ports that are easily worth their normal prices, let alone these blow-out discounts. They’ll be joined on iOS later this year by Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty, a ground-up remake of the original Abe’s Oddysee that has already hit several other platforms to positive acclaim. For now, why not fill out your collection and embrace the Odd?
