Play this 3D Remake of Original ‘The Legend of Zelda’ in Your iOS Browser Before Nintendo Drops the Ban Hammer

The Legend of Zelda originally released on the NES in 1986, and went on to become one of the most successful and popular video game series on the planet over the next 3 decades. That makes 2016 the 30th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda, which is a big milestone for an absolutely iconic game. It also makes me feel really old. Anyway, two hardcore Zelda fans named Scott Lininger and Mike Magee have taken it upon themselves to recreate that original The Legend of Zelda entirely in 3D using a voxel style. The game is playable in your browser, and of particular interest to what we do here at TouchArcade, it even works in iOS’s mobile Safari browser, complete with little virtual buttons.

The Legend of Zelda plays suprprsingly well in 3D without losing any of the charm of the original game. It makes me wish that this was some sort of official release from Nintendo, even if that meant it was only on 3DS or Wii U, and not on mobile. That’s because Nintendo is notoriously ruthless with fan-made projects that use their IP, which is understandable but still a bummer. So hurry over to zelda30tribue.com and check it out while you can, either from a desktop browser or on mobile. Let’s hope The Big N takes this as a harmless homage and lets it live for a bit, but something tells me that’s just not going to happen.
