‘Doom & Destiny Advanced’, The Sequel To Parody RPG ‘Doom & Destiny’, Just Hit The App Store

TouchArcade Rating:

Five Nights At Freddy’s 4 ($2.99) wasn’t the only surprise to pop up on the App Store today. We’ve known for a while that a follow-up was in the works to the goofy and fun parody RPG Doom & Destiny ($4.99). Titled Doom & Destiny Advanced ($4.99), it released as an Early Access game on Steam just over two months ago, which seemed to indicate it wasn’t terribly far off from launching on mobile. Well, the wait is over, as the game just sort of appeared today, and at a killer price to boot. A mere $0.99 will get you the sequel to one of my favorite mobile RPGs of 2013.

The original game told the story of four RPG fans who got sucked into a fantasy JRPG world where they were the heroes who had to save the day. Yes, you’ve probably heard that one before, but the difference with Doom & Destiny is that it was actually pretty funny and more or less spot-on in its loving skewering of its genre of choice. A little coarse at times, but overall, very funny. Better still, the game itself was a really good, full-featured, Japanese-style RPG. The only real complaints I had in my review dealt with the translation (the developers are non-native English speakers) and the somewhat fussy controls.

In Doom & Destiny Advanced, you can look forward to an all-new adventure, with a new job system, a massive variety of costumes, new skills and monsters, and even online, cross-platform PvP and co-op play. Since it’s still obviously a work in progress, the developers are promising a lot more free content to come, and the price will apparently only go up as that happens. The game sounds like a winner, but we’ll have to put it through its proper paces before we can give you a full review..
