GDC 2015: ‘The Deer God’ is a Unique Platformer with a Breathtaking Visual Style

One of the coolest-looking upcoming games from Crescent Moon is The Deer God, a randomly generated platformer with RPG elements and a killer pixel art style. You may remember us posting about it last November when it was part of an Android Humble Bundle that allowed you to get early access to the game… if you had an Android device. Since then, the game has released in a finished state on Steam and it’ll be heading to iOS at some point this year. Check out our hands-on video as Josh from Crescent Moon walks us through The Deer God and talks about some of the inspirations behind it.

Clearly, and as we talk about in the video, a big visual inspiration for the game was Sword & Sworcery ($3.99), and I’m completely in love with how The Deer God blends that pixel aesthetic with crazy lighting and parallax scrolling to create depth. I really can’t wait to get my hands on the iOS version later this year, but if you just can’t wait you can grab The Deer God on Steam in the meantime.
