Earlier this month, we learned that a mobile version of the latest Madden NFL game would be hitting the App Store right alongside its console big brother on August 26th. Hey, that's today! And true to their word, following a brief soft-launch period, Madden NFL Mobile [Free] is now officially available in the App Store.

You may remember that last year's mobile Madden was a free to play abomination, and it looks like many of those negatives are carried over to this year's edition. Always online requirement, a stamina energy system, multiple in-game currencies… it's all here.

On the bright side, EA has definitely put some work into the visuals and player animations, and the whole menu system seems much more user friendly now. So, there's that, I guess.

At any rate, Madden NFL Mobile is now available and it's free to download and try, so if you're an NFL football fan looking for some sort of gaming fix on the go, then you might as well give it a shot and let people in our forums know what you think about it.

Update: Well, just a few minutes after posting this, Madden NFL Mobile is now saying it's temporarily unavailable in the App Store. We've reached out to EA to see what the deal is, and we'll update this post again should the game return.

Update 2: It looks like Madden NFL Mobile is back, I'm currently downloading it from the US App Store without issue. In addition, a new trailer has been added to this post.

So it's like Ultimate Team, just stripped down and put on the mobile engine.

Wellllll, it's free. I'll at least try it out.

  • ImJPaul

    Got pulled.

"The item you tried to buy is no longer available."

      That's good news!

Okay the game is good looking and I haven't run into paywalls yet. It does have multiple currencies (coins and dollars) and it has timers. You start with 11 energy (weird starting amount) and you get more as you level up. Leveling up also means more plays to use, coins etc. you start out with a low amount of plays but will earn more. The game controls fine but the games are incredibly short (maybe they get longer as your progress.) but for now they are just one minute quarters... So each game last about 5-7 minutes which is disappointing. The multiplayer is also disappointing. You can go Head to head with other people but you don't play a full game. It's just one drive or pretty much just one set of downs. I don't think you actually play the actual person either cause they are always really bad. Overall it's a fun time killer and the actual space it takes up is somehow just 150 MBs.

it says it's been removed for me. Anyone else?

  • bobbstermang

    It's showing for me.

  • worldcitizen1919

Put $$ into this a couple of years ago then they pulled it only to post an exact carbon copy last year with us all having to start all over again from scratch! No way EA never again. Not 1 cent. Not bothering to even look at this.

    • kevin8977

That happened to me about 2 times with "Sims Freeplay." I spent about $20, updated had to start from scratch. Spent some more money then the same thing happened. Screw EA.

      • Jake7905

Yeah, the only freemium game I feel safe investing in the long term is Hearthstone. But that's by Blizzard, a company that "gets" free gaming. Anything freemium by EA is time bomb, and you just know that your money isn't well spent.

      • marcanthony0313

        Or Clash.

      • stolenlogic

I just have this tactic I use.
        I don't but anyfuckingthing.
Then, I'm never mad about spending money. Seriously...what do you HAVE to buy? I had madden 25 for the entire time it was out before this game, haven't spent a cent, and I have a team rated at 97.
I don't see why freeium REQUIRES you to buy...when it never does for me.

EA Sports: Giving abominations a bad name.
You still buy this companies products why?

  • kevin8977

$99 IAP. Da fuq. Do people actually buy those?

    • Moot9

Yes, they are called "whales" in the biz. Rich people who pay to win.

  • Adollin

I am getting the item you are trying to buy is no longer available as well.

  • tomj315

It's available now to me....(my home country is Israel)

  • jForsythe

Downloading now so it's there for me in australia.

  • jForsythe

    This is so weird.

  • spsummer

The $99 dollar Bonus Point bundle appears to be the best value.

  • bigrand1

Hmmph! Still available on Android, just downloaded it!

  • Speedster117

    It's back up.

  • curtneedsaride

Not going to download these in boycott of what they've done to the game-play of both this and FIFA 15. Just disgusting.

    • surirav

I hope ea is smart and fifa 15 for 5€$. With no iap like the earlier fifa. (Previous fifa 13

      • curtneedsaride

I hope so too, but from everything I've read EA is screwing up FIFA too and doing away with the Manager Mode altogether. I wonder if their free-to-play income will eventually offset all of us who will ONLY pay for an unlocked Manager Mode, and in turn, will NOT be putting any money into an Ultimate Team of any kind.

  • TokyoDan

just downloaded it now here in Japan.

  • Lemmonz

    Aaaaaaannnddd it's back.

  • sivad

I hate you EA, you are the worst mobile game producers on iOS... Please get Ebola.

  • worldcitizen1919

Jared if you review this can it please be stated unequivocally that every year they close the game off, set everyone's stats and achievements to naught and then reopen the same game with a slightly changed title and some very cosmetic changes but basically the same game. I got left in the lurch at Madden Social.

So you have to start all over again by design no doubt and that's very unfair.
