If you have a soft spot for simple to grasp, difficult to master twitch games that you can play on your iPhone with just one hand, like I do, a pretty cool one launched yesterday called The Firm [$0.99] from Sunnyside Games. The goal is pretty simple: buy green-colored stocks when they're on the rise, sell them when they're in decline. You buy and sell by simply swiping the stock certificate that slowly rise up your screen either right or left.

Sounds simple enough, right? Well here's the twist: There are red stocks too, and just to mess with your brain, those stocks you want to sell when they're on the rise and buy when they're in decline. So pretty much the exact opposite of the green stocks. As mentioned, the stock certificates are constantly rising from the bottom of your screen, so if you aren't quick enough in making your buy/sell decisions and the stack hits the top of the screen, you're fired.

The Firm is one of those games that looks so easy on the surface, but it's actually like a cerebral tongue twister. You see a graph of a stock on the rise and your first instinct is "Buy!" but then you hesitate as you question yourself, "Wait, is it a red stock or a green one? Which direction do I swipe this stupid thing–oh no now I'm getting near the top of the screen oh please somebody help me… aaaand I'm fired." It's that perfect kind of frustrating-but-compelling experience that suits mobile so well, as you can fire it up at a moment's notice and kill whatever amount of free time you have. It's also a great high score game to compete with friends on, and we all know how popular that can be (cough Flappy Bird).

So, if you're looking for a new twitch game for your phone ahead of all the new releases hitting tomorrow, particularly if you like games that test your reflexes with left/right situations like Timberman [$0.99 / Free] or my own personal favorite Critter Panic [$1.99], then toss a buck at The Firm and hit up our forums to brag about your high score.

I thought the tutorial said swipe left to not buy/sell and swipe right to buy/sell. The green stocks are for selling (high) and the red was for buying (low). Not left for sell right for buy.

I totally understood what you said.

looks great, sounds superb, can be fun ... yet again dev`s against app store market reality in the $0,99 challenge ....

      What do you mean?

      • http://www.nafna.com/ nadav bar kama

i mean that the app store is full of great games that don't get downloads for a 1$ price tag ... and the games that do, seam a bit more elaborated than this mini game, as wonderful as it may be.

      • keshi0

It's pretty cheap for a well directed game like this. The twitch, pick up, put down style is perfect for a price tag like this and i'd rather pay a small amount than suffer iap or ads.

You didn't mean what I am thinking, right?

      • http://www.nafna.com/ nadav bar kama

i agree, 1$ seams fair/low price ... but the app store "market place" isn't about keshi0, DanKrio or me ... its about millions that go first for the free stuff ... i don't want it any more than you do, but at the moment thats the way it is! good luck!
