489394_largerWith GDC on the horizon, we recorded a extra long podcast as the environment surrounding GDC isn't the best for podcastin' so I've got no idea what next week's episode is going to be like. This one has it all: Rants on controls, free to play discussion, Flappy Bird, Wrestling, you name it. Two hours and sixteen minutes of it. You better not miss it. Don't forget to shoot us emails with any questions, feedback, or anything else relevant or irrelevant to podcast@toucharcade.com. We read 'em all, even if they don't make it into the podcast. As always, you can listen to us with the links below... And if you like what you hear, please subscribe and/or drop us a review in iTunes. Much appreciated!

The default controls in Glorkian is perfectly fine. You jump with the same hand you move obviously.

It took me a while to get it, but yes, those controls work perfectly once it clicks with you. One of my early contenders for GOTY, it's THAT good. Pure arcade brilliance.

Thanks for discussing Amber Halls guys. Just to clarify: you never spawn in a place where you have no moves. That just doesn't happen. It's true that sometimes you can't avoid taking 1 hit, but you always spawn with at least 2 hearts every level. The game is extremely hard, I'll take that. But it's not impossible! So far, there have been 3 Daily Quests and all of them have been solvable.

Yeah, Eli just isn't the best with puzzles.

I like puzzle-y roguelike games a lot, and games like Hoplite are some of my favorites on the App Store... But a game in this same vein that spawns you in situations where you literally cannot avoid taking damage on your first move (When arguably your three hearts are your most precious resource.) seems like atrocious game design. It's sort of weird how much it's being argued that it isn't.

As I said before, you never spawn in a position where you will take damage in your first move, the game is designed with that in mind. But I agree with you... it's frustrating having levels where it's impossible not to take damage. Maybe I should describe the game just as a procedurally generated puzzler. The game is beatable almost 100% of the time, if not always.

I agree. I love Hoplite and 868-Hack, not so much AH. I can imagine the niche of people liking it, if for only the game playing off it's own ridiculous difficulty.

This is the funniest episode so far. Well done guys.
