It was just about a month ago that Rovio unveiled Angry Birds Stella, an upcoming game in the Angry Birds series that features a new storyline and new cast of birds. However, it looks like they've got yet another new Angry Birds game in the works, possibly one with a medieval theme. Over the weekend Rovio posted this brief teaser video to their YouTube page, which depicts a knight's armor with a familiar face living in the helmet.

Pretty standard Rovio teaser video stuff, but it's interesting nonetheless. What's more interesting though is the fact that they're announcing a soft-launch for the game, saying it will come to Australia, New Zealand and Canada first with other countries to follow after. So far, there's no sign of the new game in any of those territories, but we'll keep an eye out for it and let you know if and when it does soft-launch, or if Rovio dishes out any new information regarding this mysterious new Angry Birds game.

What is actually the point of a soft launch?

    • anabolicMike

A test. They have analytic code inside the app that sends them back mountains of information and with that they can quickly squash bugs and change imbalances. Doing a full scale launch when your rovio means 50 million downloads not only will they get a massive amount of data from such a thing (hard to process), They will almost get too many bugs and etc. They will end up swamping themselves. Plus if there's some huge game breaking thing they missed they will look really bad if it happens to 50mil people.

It's pretty much just a test launch. For helping them make the game better without over whelming response. Lots of people wish they had that issue. See if I put out an app I might as well full scale release it... I may get what? 5 downloads in a week?

Know what I mean, jelly bean?

      • nimu

A moment of appreciation for this man who took the time to write all this

      • falco

  • TheBeastlyNinja

I have an odd feeling it's going to soft launch tomorrow with the release of Dark Souls 2 and somehow going to be a Dark Souls Angry Birds... Idk crazy difficulty, skele-pigs, etc lol

    • garret44

Well the real dark souls fans will be busy with Dark Souls 2...hopefully

  • Boris Nguetie

can someone explain me why those are always the chosen territories for soft launches?

    • TheBeastlyNinja

      Because Canada

      • falco

      • fearlesskk

        Because canada is superior

    • Chris Masterton

Because they are English speaking countries that are culturally similar to the US.

    • arnoldc

Simple. Ideal smaller population for soft launch.

    • mclifford82

The US's hat makes good beta testers.

  • fearlesskk

I love soft launches! Canada ftw!

    • falco

      Oh I see 🙂

  • loox

    Game of Birds

    "All Pigs Must Die"

    • Mess

Would that involve half of the birds wing killed before the end of the first level pack?

Disclaimer - never watched Game of Thrones.

    • Themostunclean

I was going to say the exact same thing!

Or Dragon Age, Angry Birds :-p

  • rich_952000

Yeah, so anyway, on to other news that actually encompasses ALL iOS gamers and not just a discriminatingly select few...

    • dariusjr98

"Discriminatingly select few?" You must be joking. Surely you are.

  • Alexythimia23

Probably an rpg style angry birds with knight birds, mage birds, ranger birds etc all with their own powers, and maybe we can build the stats of our birds to build them into a bad ass army of poultry! Mmmm or maybe not?

  • CooleTeeps

Wow! A medieval Angry Birds? I'm in!

  • DemoEvolved

The most common reason to soft launch in a small territory is to tune the Games IAP for maximum profitability

  • rewind

Well a soft launch means Free to Play, which is good for my wallet

    • Stormourner

PPPPPPPFFFFFFFTTTTT!!!!!!!! soft launch isn't always f2p

  • HelperMonkey

Can we just give the birds some Prozac and move on with our lives?

  • hourglass

Angry Birds is the dumbest thing to ever come to the AppStore.

  • 21tigermike
