‘Ridge Racer Slipstream’ Coming to iOS this Month

It’s the 20th anniversary of the Ridge Racer franchise, and Namco Bandai is getting ready to release a brand new mobile game in the series called Ridge Racer Slipstream. The game has some shiny graphics and a heavy emphasis on customization, boasting over 300 different ways to customize your ride. The game will also feature power-ups for your vehicles like a pretty standard nitro boost and a pretty not-so-standard… er, jump… in the air… thing? You can catch what Ridge Racer Slipstream looks like in motion in the following trailer.

This isn’t the first time Ridge Racer has graced iOS, as Ridge Racer Accelerated ($5.99) launched way back in December of 2009. Unfortunately, it was pretty mediocre upon release mostly due to its control scheme, though a later update did address that. Still, I’d say it was a pretty underwhelming showing for such a classic franchise. I’m not sure if Slipstream will be the homerun that fans are looking for either, but I’ll try to remain optimistic. The choppy framerate doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence, and although it hasn’t been said yet, I’m pretty sure Slipstream will be a free-to-play game, so there’s always that to consider.

It shouldn’t be long until we can find out more though, as on the Namco Bandai Facebook page it says Ridge Racer Slipstream is set to launch on December 19th. We’ll let you know when it hits.
