Gameloft hit the nail on the head when it comes to over-the-top arcade style racers with Asphalt 8: Airborne [Free], but today they've announced that they're also getting back into the sim-style racing scene with a follow-up to their 2011 racer GT Racing: Motor Academy [Free / Free (HD)]. It's called GT Racing 2: The Real Car Experience, and here's the first dubstep-laden trailer.

GT Racing 2 was developed in partnership with Mercedes-Benz, and will feature a collection of 67 cars from 35 different manufacturers, as well as real-world tracks from around the world. There will be extensive single-player and multiplayer modes, as you'd expect from a racing title. My current pick for best sim-racer on the App Store would have to be 2K Drive [$6.99], so I'm dying to see how GT Racing 2 will stack up when it launches for free later this fall.

Well they got control system right unlike the 2k drive... Which has now gone from my device die to the control system .... Plus it made way for iOS 7 which btw the way needed 2,9 g just do peeps know (iPad 2)

Just so peeps know I mean lol

It's shaping up to be quite a battle on the iOS for realistic racing games. RR3 has some great graphics and gameplay but's ludicrous freemium pricing has forced me to abandon that game. Fortunately 2K Drive came along and offers some a full 6 degree of freedom physics model to one-up RR3 in that department. It's currently my favorite when I want to really feel like I'm driving. If GTR2 can land anywhere between the physics models of the former two games and offer more reasonable pricing than RR3 I may give it a close look.

I was very harsh about RR3 going free, but at the end of the day the freemium model isn't too bad. In fact it is at least as good as 2K Drive at not requiring you to buy IAP. Personally I was put off by 2K Drive having a relatively high price and then pushing IAP on top.

  • lordyokomoto

Off topic but guys can you set up a news page for iOS 7 ..... Looks like its going to be a problematic update ;((((

  • marc0313

2K Drive is better than RR3?? You think so? Idk.

The Real Luxury Racing Car Experience = Repair wait timers up the ying-yang.
Pay now or wait till that part gets delivered from Dusseldorph. .

  • ModdingCrash

Ummmmh I don't know if someone told Gameloft guys are a bit out of date

    • marc0313

Since hen? They just released Asphalt 8 and have MC5 coming soon, and a tad further is Gangstar Vegas.

      • marc0313

        *when. *further back

      • apolloa

That's the only GM game I want! MC5. For me RR3 cannot be beaten for racing games, I was playing RR2 for ages because they just keep on adding the content. And RR3's IAP isn't too bad really.
I am not sure what Gamelofts freemium models are like these day's but plenty seemed upset with Dungeon Hunter 4?

  • NOEN

Hmm, that's a cool Mercedes commercial.

    • OutSpoken

Well the game IS sponsored by them...

  • one.sixty.four

    Free? Darn.

  • TheGrimCreeper

Looks like a Mercedes-Benz only game.. Idk what to think.

    • Superslippy

Read the description it says over 35 manufactures

  • toxiccheese

Free? I think I will wait and see just how "free" it really is.

  • iOSPeace

    This looks good!

  • Ramaz1234

    Downloading the first game now

  • B3nlok

Give me a decent physicshandling engine and i will gladly put my money on this.

    • Baracus

Indeed. Looking at the way the cars move in that video I have 0.5% hope of anything approaching actual physics 🙁
Looks nice tho... but you can't polish a whatsit 🙂

  • Felix

I paid for the first one when it came out. It later went f2p totally screwing me out of my money. It wanted me to iap tons of things that I previously already had access to.

It was the single most aggravating gaming experience I've ever had

  • elkniwcire

Did anyone notice that they put the word "real" in the title? Now anyone searching the App Store for Real Racing will see this game too since the title "GT Racing 2: the real car experience" has both the words "real" and "racing". Quite clever but sneaker
