It's Wednesday night, which arguably is the best time to be an iOS gamer as you're on the verge of experiencing the full-force spray of the new iOS game hose. There's a lot of good stuff this week, with a whole bunch of free games that are actually surprisingly decent. Be sure to check out Yu-Gi-Oh, as it seems pretty promising. Also, Terraria and Junk Jack X decided to surprise launch at the same time, and battle it out for 2D touchscreen crafting glory.

  • Xissoric

Junk Jack X and Terraria for sure!

    • shadax

No one believed me it would be out this week!

      Junk Jack X that is.

    • chamillion205

      I bought them both too.

    • JJE McManus

      I didn't need that $10 anyway.
JJX is excellent. If you liked it before, you'll like X even more. Terraria is a tad rough around the edges. Mostly it's just the responsiveness of the controls and inventory/crafting navigation. Then again that's what updates are for.
If you are new to the whole crafting sandbox genre pick up JJX.
      Experienced players, get'em both.

  • Reignmaker

    Amazing release day!

  • Wizard_Mike

    Sheesh, expensive week...

  • Jake7905

Looks like a great week for crafting, everything else looks bland or pathetic.

  • putermcgee

I feel like those people I hate when I ask this, but which would people recommend out of Terraria and Junk Jack X? It's not a money thing, but about time.

    • Taeles

I've played the original junk jack, never played terraria though. So if I were forced to choose only one it would be junk jack because I already know I'm getting my money's worth.

    • raviadso

Junk jack is deeper and a bit more polished and had a killer soundtrack. It's probably the better choice because of all the options and how it's optimized for IOs. It basically stole the whole idea from Terraria and brought it all to IOS, but just like there are better 3d crafters than the original (minecraft) on IOS devices, Junk Jack is the better 2D crafter. Junk Jack X adds even more and streamlines it for the Ios. If you want the original, then support the guys at Terraria, but if you dont care about who did it first, Junk Jack will give you a better game experience.

    • WarMachine

I don't know what kind of drugs raviadso is on but Terraria will give way more depth versus junk jack. The game was created with PC in mind where as Junk Jack was for mobile. Also Terraria is more adventure focused whereas junk jack x is more just crafting. In Terraria there are bosses and events that unlock things like different types of material. Some weapons and equipment in the game have effects like boots that can fly and boomerang that can glow, lighting up the night. I've bought the original junk jack and the new an hour ago. I've gotten bored of Junk Jack X, but I'm gonna keep playing it before jumping on Terraria

TL;DR - Terraria has more depth than Junk Jack X.

      • raviadso

Not all content is in the IOS release yet. If it were the PC ports would both be superior. Alas, both Minecraft and Teraria are behind.

    • shadax

Been playing it for about 2 minutes and I already like it better than Junk Jack. JJX is fun and pretty solid, but terraria has this charm to it. I like the graphics better too, it's not quite as colorful, but it has these cool little details that make all the difference. Eg the way valuable materials sparkle beneath you, how the trees fall apart etc.

I haven't even figured out how to dig yet, and I already like it better. That should say a lot.

      • shadax

Anyone else having problems dragging items during the tutorial?

      • shadax

Playing more JJX now. It actually is a pretty fun game. It's a hard decision to say which is better to be honest b

      • daniel schroeder

Thanks for the replies (it looks like commenting through the app uses a different account). I got Terraria because I had been looking at it on Steam, and I think it might be fun. However, I'm already fighting with the virtual controls, and I found that I was playing for a while in the tutorial without realizing it wasn't going to save. Maybe I missed a prompt somewhere, but I think it should end the tutorial sooner (if it even ever ends normally) so you don't waste a bunch of time.

    • chamillion205

I would go with terraria, but if money isn't a issue, buy them both. They are sooo worth it

  • raviadso

If you haven't tried Junk Jack, you are missing out. It basically stole its entire concept from Terraria but did so with about 1,500 pounds of love, 500 pounds of IOS-specific tweaks and a killer chiptune soundtrack to make the best 2D crafter on IOS (and one of the better games for IOS ever.)

  • Tyler Piderit

Sweet merciful lord. Terraria and Junk Jack X!? Goodbye all productivity this week. Anyone know if Terraria is up to the latest patch on PC on mobile?

  • MrAwesomeSauce

This feels like Christmas. Junk Jack X AND Terraria 😀

  • PresidentZer0

    No multiplayer for terraria?

  • iOSPeace

That yu gi oh game is such horse manure. You Can't even play the whole story without buying the pro version

  • Tatiana

I want a Yu-Gi-Oh game that mocks the franchise. That would be awesome.
