pvz2icon-150x150We've suffered through delays and a soft launch but the time has finally come for Plants vs. Zombies 2 [Free] to launch in the App Store. People have been clamoring for a sequel to PopCap's legendary tower defense game for years, but we were thrown a curveball when we found out that Plants vs. Zombies 2 would be free-to-play. It's just so easy to mess that pay model up, you know?

However, after taking an early version for a spin at E3 and then checking out the soft launch version in a TA Plays video, it seems like they might have pulled this one off in an okay fashion. I didn't really see too much tweaking going on during the soft launch period, so it will be interesting to see how the IAP elements factor in to the final release version. Of course nothing ever "final" on the App Store, and all that stuff can still be changed following the game's official launch.

At any rate, Plants vs. Zombies 2 being free-to-play at the very least means you can download it and check it out for yourself for free, and with a release this big I'd suggest giving it a look in some capacity. You can also tune in to what people on our forums are saying about the matter, and we'll have some more coverage of Plants vs. Zombies 2 coming at you in the very near future.

No, I'm just saying. Not a bad game. I enjoyed it, but it is a bit meh. Lol

Then say that instead of "meh".

        Good point ;)

Finally :D wonder how the iAP are gonna be though

Surprisingly unobtrusive. No paywall, no timers, no "premium currency". I beat the whole game and unlocked everything without spending a dime and had a fulfilling experience.

The only freemium content are extra keys (which you really don't need to buy if you're any good at the game) and some extra plants and upgrades that aren't required to play but I suggest buying to support the game.

    Do not play this

    • TarePlays

If you have a reason. But simply saying "Do not play this" means nothing.

I've gotta say, I've had this for a while now, and couldn't wait until it was released in America to see what other's have to say. This is an awesome game. Definitely must get whether or not you enjoyed the original. 5/5 Stars

I hate that people see IAP and automatically skip out on a game. This game is great and the IAP is really, absolutely 100% optional. You get an entire game for free. But no. Big bad Popcap is the devil because EA bought them. They need to make a living by providing a truly free experience in its entirety and then of you're playing and you want some coins or a completely optional plant then buy it, or don't. They leave that option entirely up to you.

I know of paid games with worse IAP models then this and the same people bashing Popcap for putting IAP in a free game PRAISE the paid game for charging an upfront premium. I just don't get the logic.

Anyways. Great game. Very fair. Love it.

There is no logic, just following the crowd of IAP haters, this isn't clash of clans or candy crush IAP.this is IAP done right

    44mb download, 53mb installed.

Now that's good house keeping on display there.

    • FuZion

Ok, game started "content downloaded" now 244mb installed.

I thought 44mb was a bit good. Still not too bad.

This game is too easy, want the winning strat?

    Place double
sunflower, place mine for 1st zombie, place 2nd double sunflower, place
2nd mine for 2nd zombie, use the freeze plant to delay zombies while
your 2 double sunflowers rack up loads of sun, use the corn/butter
throwing plant to slow zombies...unbeatable, but boring.

    Admittedly
the only way to keep the game fresh for me is to intentionally not use
this tactic and try other plants out even though there's more chance of
losing it makes it more fun and engaging.

    Albeit the additional
challenge from some of the extra star levels do add some depth like
limiting sun and not planting on specific areas but for all the stock
levels the above tactic wins out all the time.
