207248_largerThe silly and eccentric developers at Butterscotch Shenanigans are just about ready to unleash their latest iOS effort Quadropus Rampage, which we took an early hands-on look at last month and were quite pleased with, but unfortunately have hit a snag in the Apple approval process. As they spelled out on their blog, Quadropus Rampage was rejected on Monday for some minor issues, and while those were immediately fixed and a new build resubmitted, it's still hanging around in the approval queue.

They feel bad about this, because as they put it, "we know a horde of our iOS humans were wicked pumped to slap their greasy tentacles all over their devices" with the new game. In an effort to say they are sorry and to ease the pain of waiting just a little bit longer for Quadropus, they've made their previous release Towelfight 2: The Monocle of Destiny [$0.99] free until their new game finally hits the App Store with Apple's blessing.

If you aren't super sure what Towelfight 2 is, well we've got you covered. We took the game for a spin in a TA Plays video, and we pointed out all the reasons we enjoyed the title in our full review, though you should definitely consider the big post-release update that fixed many of the issues we and other gamers initially had with the game. In short, Towelfight 2 is awesome, and if you don't own it already then you should definitely grab it for free.

We'll keep our eyes and ears on the alert for Quadropus Rampage just as soon as it hits the App Store, and if you want an alert when it does hit then simply add it to your TouchArcade [Free] app Watch List, and be sure to pass the time until then with Towelfight 2 for free.

I dont see how making the game free helps, it just makes the one's who have bought it annoyed like me

    • Scape3d

      Don't be a whiney baby.

      • jweevil

I dont think Im whining, but titles like Sonic Dash which was filled to the brim with annoying iap even when the game costed its annoying to see games go free after a month of release (not that this amazing title has)

        *liked on accident*

      • Zeldaniac

You say this sale isn't annoying but three hours earlier you said it annoyed you. Make up your mind.

    • iNanita

So it annoys you that you support the game dev?
sure making the game free helps, so people get to know this game or people who really wanted this game can finally get it cause they couldnt buy it.
YOU SHOULD BE PROUD FOR SUPPORTING GAME DEVELOPMENT, NOT ANNOYED...

      • MrHSakerEsq

People couldn't afford $0.99. I mean really!?! REALLY???

      • Skullinton

Some people don't have credit cards and can't buy itunes cards so they are stuck with free games (I used to be like that).

    • Greyskull

I bought it and I'm happy to see other have the opportunity to play such a gem.

    • araczynski

you must be new to iOS gaming. early supporters = fat cows to milk first. when the cow's empty, everyone else gets the game for 0.99 or free.

      • mr_bez

As opposed to, say, console gaming where price drops never happen?

      • araczynski

Show me where halo4 went from 59.99 to 9.99 and then two weeks later back to 59.99 and then to 9.99 and then free and then back to 39.99 and then back to 59.99 and then.... And your point will be valid.

Steam sales will forever be at me heart.

Fun game. Hard on the eyes though. You don't have to fill every inch of the screen with junk.

  • Josh Dombro

Super cool game. I'd never heard of it before today, and just started playing, but it seems like a lot of fun. Thanks for posting.

  • neopath

Ok,I'll be that guy. It's MONOCLE of destiny.

      D'oh! Thanks

  • MrHSakerEsq

Wow. So make a game free that your loyal game buyers have already bought and spent their hard earned money on is compensation for their next game being delayed.

Whatever next? An gaming app website pulling their most sought coming tonight feature in the interest of multiple postings and clickthrougths?!?

    • Skullinton

Putting this game free give the opportunity to the customers thay weren't sure to buy the game to get it, then to get to know the studio and then spread the word about them (and even probably get more day one sale with their new game).

Have you heard of Steam? They use this marketing technic all the time (everyday I must say) and it works very well.

      • Skullinton

*Correction (before someone else does): Steam doesn't lut games for free but they often put them at ridicously low prices. Making the tactic similar.*

      • forenglandalec

I do think that in Steam's case, the free idea would solve more problems for them. The amount of people who simply wait for those sales is staggering. Deep discounts might look less juicy if they started giving games away for free.

I think it works here because freebies (not adding IAP) can be smartly used to bring awareness to a developer and their back catalog.

      • Skullinton

What I meant is that the market strategy that Steam uses (droping prices) is very similar to putting a game for free on the AppStore. As the head of Valve said it; it gets people attention which increases the sales and the reputation of the devs, people will then spreads the word on how good the games are, so even people missed the price drop, they will still be want to buy the game (because of their friends who got it for instance).

  • forenglandalec

Seems like a really solid freebie. I could see buying this if I had heard about it earlier. Look, I do have those "oh crap" moments when I see that a game I have recently purchased goes free. Sometimes it just means that people weren't buying it fast enough to compete in the App Store or sometimes, as in this case, it's to reward anticipating fans. Feel good you bought it, you're helping more than you know.

  • detourne

Never heard of the game before. Saw it was free. Started playing it. It's a lot like Zelda. I'll probably buy their new game when it comes out. I'd say, mission accomplished!
