White Whale Games's pulp fantasy-inspired game God of Blades [$2.99] has inspired the release of an actual pulp fantasy book set firmly in the game's universe. Available today on iTunes for $2.99, "God of Blades: Hand of the Sable King" is an introduction to the Nameless King and a kick-off to a trilogy of books that'll fill you in on his early life (as an actual named dude, no less). We've spent a couple of post-GDC moments with the book so far and can definitely confirm that writer Greg Moller has put lotsa words in it.

In celebration of this release, God of Blades will receive a new sword later today in an update. It's called Hallow and it should be available pretty soon.

This is a pretty neat thing. God of Blades celebrates fiction, both mechanically and with its themes and tone and even presentation, so the release of an actual book feels natural. We're excited to start really diggin in.

Nice. I bet this will be a good series. I mean, if you're into pulp fantasy. It's awesome that books inspired a game that inspired books.

One of the things I loved about this game was the writing. The art, words and music have the game a depth I didn't expect.

So when does the God of Blades, book- inspired-app-inspired movie come out?

.."book"? Whats a "book"? Is it a new Apple device?

"We've spent a couple of post-GDC moments with the book so far and can definitely confirm that writer Greg Moller has put lotsa words in it." That's enough of a selling point for me!

It's nice to see that God of Blades has moved so many people with its fantastic visuals, mood and story. If only the gameplay could match, it would truly deserve the recognition it has received.

I'm a bit confused, I have this game on android and Hallow was a basic sword I could unlock from launch day. Do iOS players have different swords than android?

  • Illuminerdy

    Read a good book instead.
