Last August, PopCap Games vaguely announced a sequel to their mega-hit tower defense game Plants vs. Zombies [$0.99 / $0.99 (HD)], providing no real details but confirming that the game was a real thing that was in the works and slated for release sometime in "late spring 2013." There has basically been no word on the status of the sequel since then.

Today, while announcing a limited beta launch of a Facebook version of the game called Plants vs. Zombies Adventures, PopCap once again vaguely confirmed that Plants vs. Zombies 2 is still a real thing that is still in the works, and rather than the late spring release window we should be seeing the game hit sometime during "early summer."

While there are still no details regarding what the new sequel will contain, Plants vs. Zombies Adventures on Facebook will feature new plant types, new zombies, new kinds of defenses, and all sorts of Facebook-y social integration. I imagine that Plants vs. Zombies 2 will entail many of those types of things too.

If you're interested in the Facebook version, check out the Plants vs. Zombies Adventures page for information on the beta and eventual release, and if we get any actual information on Plants vs. Zombies 2 then we'll be sure to report it to you here.

Sounds good. This is one of the few games that I don't want to see much added to. The core gameplay was so much fun I just want to see more levels haha. Too much change could spoil the game.

I'm excited, but now they're owned by EA what's the betting it's gone the way of Real Racing 3 and been filled up with greedy micro-transactions?

  • Arch Deluxe

If EA screws this one up, I will lead angry mob carrying pitchforks and torches to their headquarters, so help me God.

    • Adams Immersive

Even if it's a paid version, they'll still insert ads later when they want some more free income! The EA way.

Angry mob is $1.99. Pitchforks and torches are consumables and run you 99 cents each.

Don't forget - even when you purchase a mob, it has a cool down time. And pitchforks are consumable.

(of course, you can always get around this with the "pro" version)

I just watched a bunch of videos and didn't pay a penny.

Angry Mob Pro runs you $69.99 and has a whole lot of features but it was engineered to crash a lot and the "No More Crashes DLC" runs you $39.99. And after the "No More Crashes DLC" the patch will delete some add-ons like pitchforks, you have to buy the "Essentials DLC" for $39.99.

PvZ is my most played game on iOS. Hope the second will be good. New plants, new zombies, new stages, maybe one or two more lanes...just hope they don't change much on the core mechanic.

Why is it so hard to get a answer on when it will be released? Damn EA. They give us Broken City and now I see they have taken over Plants Vs Zombies. I can only hope that Plants Vs. Zombies will actually be playable when it is finally released.
