Hints of a full-fledged Angry Birds cartoon series have been bandied about for what seems like forever, and now the real deal is finally set to premiere next month. Rovio has released a new teaser for Angry Birds Toons, a new weekly animated which debuts the weekend of March 16th and 17th.

It sounds like the series will delve into the details of the Angry Birds lore, asking the long-pondered questions like "what makes Bomb Bird so angry?" and "Why is the King Pig the King Pig?" Inquiring minds want to know.

I do have to admit that while I've never found myself wondering much about the backstories of the Angry Birds crew, the show does appear to have a really lovely animation style and I'm definitely going to at least check it out. If you'd like to do the same, I'm sure there will be no shortage of places for you to do so as well either on Rovio's YouTube channel, the Angry Birds website, and probably in the actual apps themselves.

The idea of an Angry Birds show is awful, but it looks amusing, and I too like the animation. I'll give it a chance.

So it has come to this...

Sure, but kids love angry birds. It makes total sense. Im sure thats the main audience.

That's what people said about MLP:FiM developing a cult following.... And then the Bronies came.... Better to adopt a "wait and see" attitude until the game comes out IMHO. You never know what might just be the Essence of Awesome XD

      • MrAlbum

        Derp, meant cartoon. Argh XP

      • tarasis

Exactly. No reason this couldn't be good. MLP was a surprising hit with many people, why not this.

      • MrAlbum

We don't know yet, but we can be optimistic, can't we?

  • B30

Why no live action movie? Here are some other suggestions: Pong, Tetris, The Blocks Cometh, Super Crate Box or a Super Monsters Ate My Condo movie ...
    just joking. 🙂

    1. Will the show have an iap pay wall?

    2. Will the show have nearly exact spin offs, and maybe one or two good expansions of it?

No to both and you've got yourself a loyal fan! :p

    • cuw

What rovio game has a pay wall? And besides angry birds seasons every one of the sequels have added quite a lot of mechanics. Rovio makes solid games and Bad Piggies, Angry Birds Star Wars, and Space were all really fun games.

This is milking the series but any company with rovio's fan base and following not cashing in is a poorly run company.

Also the original Angry Birds is still getting new content so for real they aren't worth complaining about.

    • B30

They will add IEP (in episode pay), so you can pay for a storyline. 🙂

I have this theory that an alien race is watching us, the finger on an all-destructive bomb mechanism to be fired at will, and they're just waiting for a final excuse...

come on baby milk that cash cow milk it untill its dry.....

  • JCat_NY

Well, on a positive side, it's not reality show. Still avoiding anyway.

Lol, I'll probably watch it and see if it makes me laugh. It is obvious they are milking it, but just because they are doesn't mean it has to be bad.

  • MrAlbum

If this is a series being milked dry, I have to ask: what is Rovio doing with that milk?

I think they're making fancy cheese, seasoned and aged well, that will make any cheese aficionado drool with anticipation. The key to make this great-tasting cheese is to age it. Age it for a loooooong time.

After all, they only came out in December 2009. The franchise has barely aged three years. You can't expect a great block of cheese from something aged that young.

Alright, I'll stop it with the cheese metaphors 😛 Don't want tasters cutting a new wind and causing a stink-*BITCHSLAP*

Rovio has been making games before 2009. They worked closely with Nokia on the Bounce series and other titles.

If it wasn't for Angry Birds consuming all their time, Bounce for the N900 (and the cancelled Symbian port) may have turned out to be a great sequel instead of just an awesome tech demo.

Me personally, I like Rovio and I like Angry birds even though I don't have any Rovio games installed on my phone.

Blasted non removable storage and games like Real Racing 3 and Nova 3 taking up the GBs...

Angry Birds has been on the top charts for way longer than it should have

  • jhamdotme

I’m curious. Will they have the birds and the pigs speaking? The second a word comes out of any of their mouths, they’ll have blown it.

If, instead, they can tell stories with grunts and squawks, and with music and Looney Tunes-style sound effects, they might actually have something here.

Fingers crossed, but I’m not hopeful.

    • TJF588

Great, just what my brain would need: sitting through SERIALS of those grating squawks and insufferable snorts.

Mind, I don't think such looking designs should talk, either. If it can be amusing while muted, it might stand a chance.

      uh, ya sound like it!!

  • RLangley91

Hopefully this won't be shown in GB, therefore meaning I can completely ignore it.

    This will be revealing!
