Curiosity: What's Inside The Cube, the new name for Peter Molyneux and 22 Cans' "puzzle game" Curiosity, is actually coming out. In fact, it'll be out pretty soon. 22 Cans tells us that it should see a release on November 7th, a wee bit shy of its initially planned launch.

So, what is this thing? Thing might be the best word -- billed as an experiment, it's an app that revolves around a black cube made up of "millions" of tiny little cubes. As the player, you'll be able to tap away at these cubes. The goal is to reveal its secret, but the catch is that only one person will be able to discover it. Kinda weird.

Curiosity will be free and will see a release across Android on the same day.

Sounds neat enough. Always interested but things like this that make the App Store such a unique and vibrant marketplace.

  • Bubz

But I don't get it...when that person discovers the secret, does that make the game obsolete?

    • Rothgarr

      Maybe they reset it?

    • Adams Immersive

I heard that whoever finds it dies mysteriously before they can reveal anything. That way the game stays fun for everyone else.

  • presto77

Sounds like a promise to be let down. May be a fun experiment but I don't see how the entertainment will come an keep people interested.

    • Benjamin Rodriguez

exactly. Just as there is "Unique and vibrant" apps, there are also really peculiar apps that are more of a mass let down. Without further information though, this is just speculation. "I Am Rich" App anyone?

I think the entertainment and interest will be created by the mystery. "I want to be the person to discover it". The need to know. Curiosity is the reason man kind has come so far, why they migrated from Africa. This allows us to reconnect with those ancient feelings.

I'm sure it will be an addictive hit.

Don't forget, you can secure your diamond pickaxe in the AppStore on November 7th for the low low introductory price of just $50,000.

Oh, is EA publishing this one?

      • http://www.facebook.com/ian.vischansky Ian Vischansky

         $50,000 today, $.99 tomorrow.

    • tim240

      Is that 50% off?

Peter Molyneux may have my curiosity but he will never have my money!

    • mudd

      It's free. Point, Molyneux!

      • 11LBG11

I'm fully aware that it's free, but do you really think that he doesn't intend to make money out of this?

There are going to be in-app purchases that will allow players to destroy blocks faster. The most expensive is the diamond pick axe at $50,000.
This is just beyond ridiculous and a good reason to not support the app.

I wonder how long it will take after release for the inevitable douchebag to post "I was the one! I'm not telling anyone what was inside the cube though! LOLZ all u nubz R belong to M3!"

*Sigh* A nifty idea Peter, but I guarantee you're just feeding some lame trolls...

  • Greyskull

Having played Peter Molyneux's games since the Commodore-64, I'm guessing this game will obliterate the wall between the player and the game; blur the lines between games and life; forgoing the carrot-and stick paradigm of electronic gaming; opening a world in which the player is no longer a player but a CREATOR! There will be no A.I. actors, we will encounter characters that blur the line between flesh and machine...they will learn from us...they will. Not. Forget.

Then Peter will get down to programming and give us an average game with limited options where everything responds to a simple set of IF-THENS. But hey, maybe we can throw virtual poop! Gimme a Warren Spector production and I'll be excited.

    • ImJPaul

I haven't the slightest clue what I just read. Haha.

      • Greyskull

Just look up the games under his belt and compare them with his pre-launch hype. I think Populous got to his head. But hey, I think he was part of the team behind Archon...not sure, don't have my C-64 vinyl record style disk holders any more.

I bet inside the cube is a sphere made up of millions of spheres, and inside that a hexagonal prism made up of millions of prisms, and so on.

  • seanec89

Steve jobs is at the center of the cube.

      Wrong. Gwyneth Paltrow.

      • B30

        Wrong, we're in 2012, so it's obvious: it's a zombie!

Will this become the "lost" of video games or will it rightfully ignored?

  • SephiTrax

The middle contains YOUR 15 minutes of fame. One week later? You'll be forgotten!

  • Speno1

I'm pretty sure millions of players will claim to be the one who got to the centre, and will make it up as to what was inside.  It's pretty much guaranteed that there will be at least 1 troll who will do this

  • DCver3

Just made it...it was the exact same center as a tootsie roll tootsie pop. It only took me three licks and a bite to get to it to...just like that damned owl. lol
