Details are still vague as they could possibly be regarding the upcoming Magic the Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalker 2013 coming to the iPad, but a new video just hit YouTube this afternoon that shows off some of the new cards included in the 2013 release. Give it a look:

It's probably safe to assume that this is video of the PC (or console) version of the game, so it'll be interesting to see how many of the various visual effects transfer over to the iPad. Either way, we'll find out when the game finally hits sometime this summer. I can't wait.

The best MTG game I've played is 'Battlemage' on PS1 : 200+ cards, real time action, the ability to create your own deck, and an awesome female voice for every card.

I guess they don't want to spoil us nowadays with too many features, or perhaps they don't want to burden us with the pressure and responsibility of creating our own decks.

    Take my money now.

Please let me fully edit my's the main reason I won't buy any more of these games.

2012 does let you fully edit your deck.
You just cannot "create" a deck from scratch.

They won't allow that. Don't know why. Some say it's because of Magic Online (a collision of interests) others say they can just allow us to build a deck from scratch with the cards already in the game - just no Rares, commons & uncommons only. Whatever Wizards reason, they are not sharing they're as to why not.

However, you do have full deck editing in 2012.

I have no interest in ever paying for MTGO. This is the only way Wizards will get my money. Give me full control of the cards I unlock otherwise it's only a small fraction of the MTG experience. Btw there are lots of commons and uncommons that are far better than rares or even mythics.

        It's not going to happen.

Wizards makes money offa the CARDS.  Wether you buy them in packs at a store, or in packs online with MTGO, that's just the way it works.  MTGO seems to mostly exist for those that want to get into the game, but have a hard time finding local places to play at (or sometimes, even places that actually SELL them).

They're not gonna give you a seperate game that lets you do all of this for free or for the cost of a single low-priced game download.   Hell, they're not gonna do it for a FULL priced game ($60) either.

Unfortunately, TCGs tend to be an expensive hobby, and this one in particular.

As it goes, yet again, I wont be buying this one myself either, due to the extreme limitations.   Not interested if I cant make my own decks.   I do though play MTGO during times when I havent been blowing money on other games, so that works out well enough.

Except when they did in Shandalar

I meant to say not allowed to use rares when building a deck. Only allowed to use commons & uncommons.

Interesting video. Showed deck breakdowns, synergy stats. Love it.

The Magic community has managed to pick out some cards from the video and posted them up. For those interested, here you go:

By the way Touch Arcade, loving this iPhone app. Thank You.

Hope it comes to iPhone/iPod at some point too.

  • lepeos

It doesn't mention iOS at the end of the video. I hope we don't get some severely nerfed version.

This is what I want 🙂

It's like they're not even trying anymore...
