Dungeon Raid [$.99 / Lite], a match-3 that TouchArcade President-in-Chief Eli Hodapp freely argues is the greatest game ever created, has been updated on Android. You probably don't care about that considering this is an iOS-centric web site and all, but here's the twist: in a tiny celebration of the fact that DR has made the platform leap, the iPhone version's price has been reduced to $.99 from $2.99. Neat!

The RPG component is what hooks people as hard as Eli Hodapp. The integration of items, abilities, equipment upgrades, and character classes is seamless and super clever; they end bridging a gap you didn't even know existed in the well-worn genre. Our glowing review, which pours over all of the game's fine details, is available here if you'd like to learn more before taking the plunge.

Aww shucks, not universal or even a seperate version for ipad. If there was i would get it, but there is not so i won't. Boo!

I played the free version for days and didnt realize the full game offers anything more than taking away the ads. I bought the game when it hit .99 cents to show support (which sounds a little insulting actually) and was very pleasantly surprised to see a lot of new features. It also chews through my battery much more slowly than the free version.

My advice to the dev, throw in a little upsell screen in the Free version, describing what's missing!

You have much more in full version, for example classes (ranger), they can level up, recieve perks, special skills, advantage/disadvantage per class,...

Eek it's got terrible reviews in Android Marketplace. I guess it doesn't work for a bunch of people. Yay fragmentation.

Plays like a dream on my iPod. Bought this after it was released and still play it regularly. Dev has enhanced with updates and features a few times which enhanced the game. Tried it at 2x on my iPad. Scaled ok...but found it was less efficient to play at 2x scale. The smaller iPod screen is actually more efficient for this style of game play to me.

Doesn't look like much from the pics, but i like the rpg elements so i may give it a go.

it is very addicting, not in a "bejeweled" kind of way (casual and tiresome), but more like "puzzle quest" kind of way (due to RPG elements)

Could do with a serious makeover... tried to get into it, but always ended up booting up puzzlequest instead.

Now just make it universal please!

I wish they would add universal support but it's still a must have. I've had it since release and still play it.

If you let my message stay on this site, i will immediatly stop after user "Sanuku" has been proven GUILTY or INNOCENT. If you do not agree with these reasonably terms, then my fellow members will be forced to spam this site until justice has been served. If it was possible for me to be back on this site after being "forever banned", then it is also possible for 10 people being banned and unbanned ever 10 minutes.

[I believe you are a pirate. I believe you download cracked Appstore Apps then you review them.
Im pretty sure this comment will be reported and soon removed, but it is obvious that you are a pirate. If TouchArcade is truly against piracy, then they will not censor my accusation, because i am clearly not breaking the rules:

"- No piracy. Discussion about piracy in the abstract is acceptable. But links or how-to's or where to get pirated software/ROMs will quickly result in banning."

You have the right to defend yourself, and the only evidence that can protect you is the receipt/ bill iTunes sends to your email/ Apple Account. All you have to do is take a screenshot of the bill/receipt of all your recent purchases with the correct Store/Time/ Game ID, and nothing more is required. You can censor out the billing information/ E-mail.]

EDIT-- Yes, i was indeed banned by a mod "forever", and not even a warning given. It seems TA they can ban me for not breaking their rules.

This is only Wave 1, of something that can possibly go on for ever 5-10 minutes

No matter how many times you try to censor us, you will Fail.

If you truly support Sanuku and his actions, then your site will Fall, whether or not SOPA/PIPA are granted or dismissed!

Hey, Brain Boy, guess what, yes, you probably are breaking a whole lot of rules.  Threatening anyone, or an entire site, over the Net tends to have that effect.

It also makes you look dumber than a sack of hammers.

Oops, that's an insult to the hammers.

Oh, and tell your idiot hacker friends that THEY ARE THE REASON WHY SOPA EXISTS.   You're not HELPING with this sort of attitude.   You're just MAKING IT WORSE.  Idiots like you are why this bill appeared in the first place.

Congratulations!  You are a moron!

Now,

GO AWAY.

this used to be my favorite game, but since the couple last updates or so, it broke a few achievements that I don't see how I'm gonna unlock them :( (i.e. kill a shield mimic, but now mimics are no longer disguised as other stuff!!)

please tell me that has been fixed!!

This game is awesome.  It's elegant, got great sounds, and the gameplay is awesome.  The added 'classes/races' and perks is interesting, but the UI setup is a bit confusing at first.
New players just remember to hit "edit" before you roll in with a character who is above 1st level (you can add perks, change skills in your classes' list, and change race when you get above a certain level (I think it's 5?)).
Another thing to keep in mind is that the skills are great, the perks are ok (arrows are nice!), but the item bonuses can be a huge difference too.  I often pick Blunt, Spikes, & boost shield damage absorption first, then boost luck, gold & shield increases, then regeneration and poison.  Shields are somewhat more complex than you might initially think, and repair is not vitality.  Confused?
I posted a strategy guide awhile back on my blog -- http://rekzkarz.blogspot.com/2011/02/dungeon-raid-strategies.html
but this was *before* the class/race/perks upgrade to the game.

I should mention I am not a super-highscoring person in this game.  I have found hard to be *much* harder than normal, and my scores are significantly worse on hard.

Last thing to say, this game is easily worth $3.  For the gameplay, it'd be worth far more.  But for $1 it's a steal.  Recommend it to all your friends & have a blast!

(I'm talking about iPhone version, not familiar with Android -- but you can trust this dev will get it working.  I felt they were very 'on the ball' and also quite responsive to users via the forum.)
