As a lot of you are already aware, Infinity Blade 2 [$6.99] has some crash issues on iPad and iPod Touch. Thankfully, Chair Entertainment and Epic Games have already identified the culprit and are speedily working on a fix to address the problem. "For some users, IB2 seems to be running out of memory on heavily-laden iPad and iPod Touch devices," Epic's Mark Rein wrote on the publisher's message board. "We're working on a quick fix and will submit an update to the store as soon as possible," he continued later.

Rein explained that the game wasn't tested on machines with a "massive" amount of apps. He suggested a user-end fix for the meanwhile. "When apps run out of memory at loading times, that is something often fixed by restarting your device. I recommend that people try restarting their device to see if that solves it for them."

We touched on this very topic on this week's show. We're all pretty confident that an update is barreling down the pipeline as we write this -- Infinity Blade 2 is going to get its share of promotion from every side, so it needs to be fixed very soon.

Hope they are working on the failure to save bug as well. If anyone else is suffering from it, you need to switch off 'Document and Data' saving in iCloud settings.

    • Anonymous

I gave it a try and it still lost all my progress. Thanks though. I was really hoping it would work because I want to play the game but this is like the sixth time I've had to start over!

      • http://twitter.com/Adam_Adda Adam Evans

Yeah I restarted like 4 times but since I've had it off, it hasn't deleted my save again.

      • Anonymous

Maybe I'll try it again. At least all my game center acheivements are still there.

    • li_james_xu

It didn't work for me, I just turned icloud update off played for 5 more hours (first playthrough level 30+) and then... It lost my save game AGAIN! I AM SO ANGRY WITH CHAIR HOW CAN YOU RELEASE A GAME WITH SUCH A HUGE GLITCH???

  • Anonymous

Anyone having a sound issue with the game ? I have no sound at all with it on my iPhone 4S

    • Silverfist Jewelry

Yeah, that's popped up a few times; either when I get a text notification or when restarting the game after sleeping the phone. Next time I play the sounds working again.

Background effects and music are there, just not the combat noises.

Hopefully it's a quick fix. At any rate, it's not too irritating so I can bear with until then.

      .

    • Mike Murphy

I have no sound either, on my iPhone 4S.

  • Adams Immersive

Just curious—how does that kind of issue work? Having a massive amount of apps installed shouldn’t affect RAM on iOS as I understand it—and it certainly never seemed to for me. Having run (not merely installed) too many RAM-hungry apps recently might, though, from time to time. (Still, it ought to be the oldest app that exits, not the newest. I know bugs do happen, of course.)

    • http://twitter.com/Adam_Adda Adam Evans

Apparently the icons for apps must be held in memory so that there is no delay in showing them in the multitasking bar or on the app pages and this is what is causing the problem.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_5FLRQI2X2LU3IHMCG7HEAEFD5I Cat Astrophy

The problem is a measly 512MB of RAM.

      • TeddyNYC

Or more likely the measly 256MB of RAM found on the original iPad and 3rd gen iPod Touch (not sure if the 4th gen has 512MB or 256MB).

I have a 64GB 3rd gen iPod Touch with about 240 apps installed and I'm having crashing/sluggishness issues with some apps. It actually became worse since I installed iOS 5.0. I just ordered a 64GB iPhone 4S and wish it had 1GB of RAM to "future-proof" it for the next 2-3 years. Oh well, it should perform better than my iPod Touch. I hope the iPad 3 gets 1GB.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_GHIIHTRJXIOZCAF2GESNKZH264 himanshu

2-3 years of future proofing with 1 GB RAM?

      • TeddyNYC

I could be wrong, but I doubt 2GB or 4GB will be necessary 2 years from now on a smartphone. Tablet, maybe 2GB.

  • Adams Immersive

Interesting. Well I’ve hit the worst-case wall on my iPhone then, I think :) No memory problems so far, happily, but SO many apps...

  • Kyle Trail

See, that's the problem I've had with COD:Black Ops Zombies.  I can't get past the loading screen without a crash.  I've tried it all, restarting, uninstalling and the whole nine, but nothing on my 1st gen iPad.  Bummer.  I'm so jazzed about the game, but cannot play it.

    • http://profiles.google.com/godboubs Brandon Godbout

people need to stop complaining.. kill all apps open (double tap home button)
95% of the time this fixes the issue.

if you are on an older devices...sell it.. and get a new one. its almost 2012...come on now..ipad 3 will be out then sell the 2. i have not once had to pay for ANY new iDevice due to selling the old one.

      • http://twitter.com/TheAndrizzle Andrew Bauer

I have a 4th Gen iPod touch, an I've troubleshot the hell out of this before turning to the Internet. I've already tried closing all apps, restarting the iPod, uninstalling and reinstalling the app and uninstalling other apps to free up more memory.

If you don't have the issue, please don't assume that it means no tech literate people can have it.

      • Anonymous

And yet if nobody used the older devices, nobody would be buying them off you so you could afford a new one. If the game is listed for a particular model it should work as advertised, if a particular model cant handle the game, dont release it.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_5FLRQI2X2LU3IHMCG7HEAEFD5I Cat Astrophy

It probably runs fine if you make sure NOTHING else is running in the background. Even if that turns off some sales, it's more than ZERO if they didn't release it for X weaker model.

I like how this is blamed on users "overwhelming" their "heavily laden" IOS devices. Yes, I'm a nerd, so I have 237 apps installed. But that's also the reason I bought a 32 GB iPod, and the reason I bought IB2 the day it came out. Don't sell me a product that doesn't work and then tell me it's my fault.

I blame Crapple for leaving a horrible 512MB RAM on a 2011 phone. Get with times Crapple. 1GB memory was the first upgrade 4S should have had. Background OS essentials + basic stuff like Mail+Phone+Messages eats up already half the memory. Have one or two apps open in the BG and GG this game drags.

      • Anonymous

The iPod touch 4G only has 256 MB.

    • Anonymous

They didn't blame the users. They just said that its a symptom of that scenario that they didn't test fully. At no point did they say its the users fault and not theirs. The "reboot your device" is just them offering a temporary solution while they fix their problem.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QCP4WHWLUQHFIOP66SLEA7E5CA Hampus

It's kinda odd, at first the game just wouldn't load on the iPad, tried over a dozen times and with restarts in between. Then I started it and played for a short while on the iPhone 4 and then it just started working on the iPad, wonder if it had something to do with the save that got synced over... Really odd...

  • http://twitter.com/kurosov Anthony Marsh

Always had problems with the original on my iPad and seeing the reviews for IB2 has put me off buying it so far. A shame as they added the one feature i really wanted in the original release, iCloud game saves.

  • http://www.facebook.com/derflatermaus Matthew Carter

I'm having the same problem with the original Infinity Blade on iPad 1.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_GTGKBUNEHI7UYUFWTOU2XG3AYY Jay

I managed to get past the crash on my iPad 1, but in a really bizarre and unintuitive way. If you double tap the home button to bring up the recent apps bar during the opening titles, and then leave that bar open while the cutscene plays, it doesn't crash, and then you can play without any issues at all. Don't ask me how or why it works though, it makes no sense to me!

Probably a good thing I got IB2 working when I did, seeing as how I just accidentally erased my IB1 game saves. Whoops!

    • Anonymous

Oddly enough this did work for me. I think you've got something here for iPad users.
      TY for posting this.

  • TeddyNYC

It looks like people with iOS devices with only 256MB are now hitting a memory wall. Or in other words, Apple would like you to upgrade your hardware in the next few months.

    • Anonymous

But 3rd generation devices don't have this issue, and they've only got 256MB and slower processors than 4th generation devices. Also, the iPod touch is currently un-upgardable, as Apple has yet to release a 5th generation iPod touch- unless you upgrade to an iPhone 4S.

      • http://profiles.google.com/fleshman1992 Laszlo Tuss

Say this to my 3Gs! Yes, it crash on startup like my iPad...

      • Anonymous

Well yeah, it can crash on any device, but the majority doesn't have issues with it on their 3rd and 5th gen. devices. That doesn't mean there won't be any. It's just more common on 4th gen. devices.

      • Nicholas Szerman

cmon if u dont know dont post n**b 5th gen doesnt exist.

      • Anonymous

Ummm.... iPad 2? iPhone 4S? They are both considered 5th generation iOS devices.

Also, I've been posting here for a while (a few years) so you can't really call me a noob.

BTW, what's up with the really late reply to an old comment? You're a bit too late to the party.

  • Jonas

It's a bit peculiar that neither TA, nor any other iOS blogs among those who have recently written short pieces on Chair patching IB2 to resolve the memory issues for iPod and iPad, mention the save game issue. There are many users in the forums reporting this issue, all effectively kept from playing the game at all, since it resets all progress upon every relaunch.

Chair have, so far, not responded to ANY Twitter queries regarding the matter, nor given any signs in their forums that they even have knowledge of the problem.

  • Anonymous

Does anybody know if this has cloud game saves? If it does, then I'll play it on my iPad 2. If not, then I'll wait for the fix. My iPod is my primary device, so I don't want to have to start over again when the update is out.

  • http://twitter.com/Spadez7 Oscar Alanis

I don't know what all the fuss is. I have an iPhone 4 running iOS 5.0 and I haven't had a single problem. Great game, by the way. A pity I beat it in about 8hours.

    • http://gplus.to/FaustsHausUK Dale P

It's glitch free here on an iPhone 4S with iOS 5.0.1, I'm about to test on an iPad 1 running the same. Both devices are 64GB with more than 32GB free.

  • Raghav Jetly

There seems to be a few more bugs in the game as well. For starters every time  I use the heal spell(it involves tracing a U pattern) my character ends up performing the shock spell(a bolt sign). I ended up having to use a different ring because of that. In addition to that on occasion the continuity of the fight sequences is broken(especially in the fight against the god king)

  • Anonymous

Why weren't these issues reported in the TA review for the game?

I see no antialiasing , is it just me? Is there a fix? Anybody seeing no proper antialiasing on infinity blade 2 graphics?

  • David Webb

I agree with Jonas. It is extremely odd that just a quick Google search of "infinity blade 2 save/won't save/how to save/ pulls up tons of forums with users talking about the save issue...yet it isnt mentioned on the infinity blade website, just the crash issue, and they aren't responding with any support on Twitter. This is keeping me from playing the game. Why aren't they acknowledging this?? Also, can anyone confirm turning off the documant and dat serting in iCloud works for them? I REALLY want to play!!!

I also notice, that when I go to my iCloud settings, it shows my IF2 save files under "Manage Storage"...not an iCloud expert yet, but that is weird...

    • http://gplus.to/FaustsHausUK Dale P

Yes, iCloud backs up app content, too. This is by design. It's how you can do a complete device restore from iCloud.

  • http://twitter.com/frac6969 FRiC

1.0.1 still doesn't work on my iPad 1.

  • David Webb

After further investigating on Twitter, @Chairgames isn't responding to users about the save issues, but @infinityblade and @MarkRein are. and Mark tweeted to. few people they are looking into the issue. I also see Mark responded to one person, "did you jailbreak your device?", wonder if that has anything to do with the issue. There are alot of unhappy people, but they should just be patient. Also seeing on Twitter that the just released tonight update is not any better.

I haven't done anything with my iPad but use it as designed yet each time I tab away from Infinity Blade it resets back to the start and all progress is lost. Going yo delete the app and challenge the charge with American Express.

  • http://twitter.com/rravi Ravishankar

How could they release it for iPad 1.0 if it has not been tested & is simply crashing out !
Any one suggesting a device upgrade, just shut up.

  • http://twitter.com/TheAndrizzle Andrew Bauer

Installed the update but no change. Still won't run on my 4th gen iPod running 5.0.1. Closing background apps and restarting has no effect.

  • glenn torres

the update still have the crash at the loading with the infinity blade II logo, and i find my self a solution to work it but not soo good,, i just restart my ipod touch 4 many times and it work but if you close the game,, i will do restart again many times just to run it,, but one thing i have notice when i got into the game,, with the new update,, the performance improve well, its smooth now, maybe 50-55 fps on ipod touch 4g,

the only problem now is on the loading at the beggining with the infinity blade 2 logo!

just like what infinity blade 1 problem has on the past version of it, but on the latest update of infinity blade 1 is now perfect!

Don't know if this helps anyone. I had the save issues also. I found that if I erase the game off my iPhone 4s and only have it installed on my ipad2 I have not had any issues since. I have played up to level 16 and am on my 8th bloodline.

  • shon zim

    • Paul Grohowich

8 gig? Infinity blade 2 is huge! It requires aprox. 1 gig to download as well as 1 gig to extract, maybe more.. I would ensure u have at least over 2 gigs free just to install. That's all I can think..

  • Viviana Arroyo

I have the same problem. And the worst of it is that the developers doesn't have an answer for us. I paid 7 dollars for a game that doesn't work because I have too many apps??? It is not an excuse. I'v has this problems for month than a month and they still haven't come up with a solution.
