Check the “Updates” tab on the App Store, Rimelands [$1.99] owners. The brilliant turn-based RPG created by the dudes over at Crescent Moon Games and Diceworks has just been updated to include Retina display visuals (including higher-res cut-scenes and textures) and Universal support.

And as if that wasn’t enough, the teams have also rolled in a slew of new in-game content and various bug fixes and tweaks into this update. According to the official change list provided to us, after you beat the game, you'll get access to two new levels with six new enemies and several new items, as well as the opportunity to fight three brand-new "extremely challenging bosses." Crescent Moon has also wiped out some the game's horrendous crash bugs, adjusted the difficulty on some bosses to make them harder, tweaked enemy balance to reflect where you are in the game, and "tons of other smaller bug fixes" which doesn't include the new fix for the end game cut-scene, which wouldn't trigger previously for some.

If you didn’t catch my drift earlier, Rimelands is awesome. My main man Jared’s review, for example, was plastered with praise. He called it “one of the best RPG experiences you can have on the iPhone” and spit big game about its visuals, the underlining narrative, the combat, and the variety included in the package. It's a must-have, you know?

So, yeah, you’re missing out if you don’t buy this thing and, yes, now would be a good time to do it -- it’s currently on sale for $1.99 (down from $4.99) until, at least, tomorrow. NEAT!

Don't be fooled. This game isn't that great. The engine looks good and the mechanics are fun but the story is minimal and game play repetitive. It's also quite short and not difficult at all. It took the publisher months to put an actual end to the game. All of us at the end are still stuck there. Due to the anemic save system those of us who have otherwise beat the game have to start over to get to the new content.

Totally agree with Bretonmj. I've been stuck at the end for a month now with no ending in sight. Developer says they don't see a solution to all the people who already bought the game so only newcommers get to see an ending. BS.

Apparently, this isn't the only game the devs put out that have similar issues, poor iPad graphics, bugs, and nothing but excuses as to why they can't fix these issues.

They didn't learn from their mistakes on their first release and are planning on punishing many more users until they make their money. Pathetic.

I agree that the ending bug should be solveable—even if they had to write special code just to detect that scenario and give prior players a modified level, or something.

(What’s wrong with the Save system? It seems simple and does the job; is it that you can’t save multiple points to go back to? Being able to return only to the most recent point before death seems OK to me... but I’d sing a different tune if I manually saved right before death! I try to stick to the auto-saves.)

I can’t speak to the ending yet, but I’ve been playing this again for the past few days (iPhone 4) and am enjoying it a lot! I’m not a hard core RPGer, so maybe this isn’t for everyone? The UI is not retina but the game itself is, and looks great.

I started this game over a month ago, and when I resumed recently (still near the beginning) recently, I had forgotten how it started. I’ve been stocking up on Assassin gear/skills and nothing else (because I like ranged) but I see I also have high Magic power. Does that mean I chose a Magic emphasis when I first started? Will I run into a wall because I’ve gone with Assassin choices instead? So far, I get killed sometimes but I’m still progressing (just finished Norn: Future).

I thought this game was very, very fun.

I played it a while back and enjoyed it. I stopped right before I got to the final dungeon, waiting for the 1.2 update which I had heard would (a) fix the broken ending, and (b) add new content. I'm a little annoyed that it took this long for the update but I'm looking forward to finishing the game now.

Did the same thing, waited until the update. It didn't work!

I can't speak to the end either, but have played for a couple days. It's fun for people like me who a) don't have time to dedicate to a serious RPG and b) are just looking for a light, decent, dungeon-crawler. It's a little one-dimensional ... I was hoping for something a little more along the lines of Diablo I/II. But at $2 for the HD price (as of right now), it's a decent buy.

Oh, and some item codes I've got/found:
1a554q - healbracer (gain HP on rest)
      g113s0 - ripper (ranged weapon - 28-36dmg, rgd A/D: 1/0, 50% chance make enemy bleed)
      s4hk01 - shock mallet (melee - 80-100dmg, mel A/D: 2/1, 25% chance to stun)

    Brad means 'underlying', not 'underlining'.

As for the game: I love it. A rich, immersive, compelling game experience from beginning to end. I highly recommend it and can't agree enough with Jared's review.

    So unprofessional again Brad.
