Earlier today Gameloft released a teaser trailer for the sequel to their hit Halo-esque first person shooter, N.O.V.A. - Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance [$4.99 / HD]. N.O.V.A. 2 seems to feature the return of Kal Wardin continuing the adventures of the formerly retired space marine, and judging by the trailer is packed with all kinds of scripted events:

N.O.V.A. 2 is coming soon, which in Gameloft-speak usually means in the next few weeks. Also, it wouldn't surprise me at all if Gameloft takes the same awesome online multiplayer from Modern Combat 2: Black Pegasus [$6.99] and iterates it further with either more players in games, more game modes, more maps, or who knows what else. Either way, we liked the original N.O.V.A. quite a bit in our review, and I'm expecting the sequel to be just as (if not more) cool.

Will it have crappy dialogue and only 8 1-minute levels like the last one?

1 minute levels? You must be a cheater.

I was exaggerating. I managed to finish NOVA in about 20-30 minutes. I probably shouldn't have expected a lot from it.

      • Ncat

Your right, how can I escape from reality when a game just gives me 20 minutes of gameplay! :P

      • BOBsway

Yeah you managed to finish the first level of NOVA in 20-30 minutes, cause thats how long the first level by itself takes..LIAR!!!

Hope it uses Open GL 2.0 Graphics or the Unreal 3 engine

      Open Gl 2.0? Probably.
Unrel 3 engine? DEFINETLY not. Do you think they started making this game last month?

I hope they make the environment interactive ie. oil barrels that blow up when fired upon etc. I miss that in MC2.

      I'm talking about online multi.

Just another tons of stolen contents, with crappy, or zero story...

    • Salsamd

You would rather sit all alone by your telephone waiting for the real deal to come out?

      • Vulture3

        HAHA! My thoughts exactly.

      • Zsoc

Too many games are in the app store, what's worth to pay for it. Gameloft just the worst game "developer" company in the earth.

      • Anonymous

"...in the earth" Like a big game producing plant? :)

      • E_Domina

wow. if you think gameloft is the worst. show me a better fps than nova or mc2

I think Archetype is better than NOVA, and COD Zombies is better than MC2. I know they are lacking features compared to Gameloft's entries, but the biggest Swiss Army Knife is not always the best.

I'm glad someone else feels the same, Gameloft are the most un Apple like developer out there, they just fire up their copy machines and churn out another game lacking which misses the subtleties that made the ones they copied great.

I just finished their GTA copy Gangster (the new one) and it was awful, dated and boring and very very unoriginal.

I don't think I am going to reward their lack of talent and originality by buying any more of their games.

I think it will be great game, I it will takes some more time for mobile devices to have "content" like console games, it's difficult to create original FPP game with story for mobile device, so many was there from Quake , Painkiller ending on Unreal mmmniam.

  • iLikeFrogs

Looks awesome, but after the first teaser's tiny glimpse of the graphics, I have to say I was expecting slightly better visuals. :)

  • Anonymous

It doesn't look all that different from the first one, looks like the same graphics to me. I hope they have a hard setting from the start of the game instead of unlocking it, because gameloft's interpretation of a normal mode is way to easy and boring.

  • E_Domina

This will probably be just as great or maybe even better than MC2 if that's possible on an iDevice FPS

  • Lol

oh yes halo 2 is out!

  • John johnner

honestly after MC2 i couldn't care less about stories in FPS's, all im saying is this better have multiplayer as good as MC2 or better, or its not going to do well, and the people who constantly talk about them ripping off other games, who cares, its funny, and they do it well, i'd rather have these rip offs than no decent games.

I could see a big ass law suit from Bungie...Its H.A.L.O.

  • Kapone1992

hahaha ok looks nice but i agree with robert jas its hard to make an a original fps and more for iphone come on its a phone!! but serioulsy i hope they improve the graphics and make a better story... i was a little bit disapointed with mc2 so many
glitches!!haha well the only thing i've didnt like on the vid was the metal gear solid giant robot xD comon!! gameloft needs more original ideas!! they started stealing parts of other hit games.

    EKAU: mexican gamer :D

  • Kapone1992

PD: the red bad guys look like samus..

  • esfrost

The whole game feels really HALO'ish... Doesnt it?

  • Geert

I love Gameloft for MC2. Very curious about N.O.V.A. 2!

  • araczynski

reminds me... have to start the first one before the iPad digital bits dissolve away.

  • MikedaMAc

Anybody who says they beat all 11 levels in the original N.O.V.A. is well a BIG FAT LIAR.. Making your way through the first level alone takes at least 15-20 minutes by itself.

N.O.V.A 1 is still in my iphone/ipad top 5 games of all time.

    I can't wait for N.O.V.A 2.

And whats up with BLACK PEGASUS for the IPAD..come ON gameloftttttttttttttt....I'm ready to spend my money.

the original NOVA graphics seem a lot better with iPod 4 and the Retina Display. Framerate is much improved and just the overall look of everything is better (shooting, turning, etc (no lag or anything) Yea the multiplayer could use more than 4 people and maybe another level or two, but that doesnt make it terrible. The only problem I had with it was the story mode, it was just too short. More levels or at least longer levels. Btw people that say it take 15-20 min for the first level... that bull crap. I beat each level in about 8 (on hard). so in that case you beat the game in like an hour.

  • Hbn46

MC2:BP is also pretty good, i havent tried the multiplayer yet though. has there been any problems with it like the first MC with that connection error or that it would kick you out when you joined a game (some reason that kept happening for the longest time)??

People need to stop complaining about Gameloft's ripoff games. Everybody knows! You don't have to keep pointing it out! If the games were crap I could understand complaining, but as far as ripoffs go these games are amazingly good! Just be happy that you can play a Halo game on the go! Actually, I don't have an Xbox so I can't play the real Halo, but this is a quite acceptable substitute!
    (Rant over)

    • Hbn46

I agree, for not being able to play an xbox wherever you go, these games are a good substitute. It may not BE halo or call of duty( for MC2) but its definetly pretty damn close. Plus having them on an Ipod you can play them wherever you feel like. Just because there "ripoffs" doesnt mean theyre automatically bad. Cant wait for NOVA 2

  • Replyk33tor

NOVA was never created as an substitute for Halo on iPhone platform...The entire effort of the art team was not to copy Halo's art direction. Of course, associating NOVA with Halo, is an real plus. If some game dev company will make an science-fiction RTS for iDevices, everybody will say that it's a Starcraft ripoff.
If you want an action packed fps to go, NOVA 2 will be the one.
