Crescent Moon Games has a lot going on recently between the price drop of Ravensword: The Fallen King [99¢ / Free], the upcoming Ultra Kid: Mystery of the Mutants, and two different collaborations with other studios: Aralon: Sword and Shadow with Galoobeth Games, and Rimelands: Hammer of Thor with Dicework Games. We've been following Rimelands for a while, and have made mention of both their teaser trailer and web site which features oodles of information both about the gameplay of Rimelands and the lore behind the game world itself.

Today a new video was released showing a surprising amount of gameplay footage as developer Josh Presseisen goes over the various parts of the game including the battle system, inventory management, skills, and even a boss battle. The video is a little long, but will show you more than enough to get you excited about this turn-based RPG:

Rimelands: Hammer of Thor development is nearing completion and is expected to be available for download inside the next month or so. Of course, when the time finally comes, you can expect a full review from us. In the meantime, swing by the official thread on our forums where the developers are actively participating in discussion about the game.

Wierd how the dice roll right on top of your character. Turn based strategies really shine when you have to manage multiple enemies with limited resources. When you just fight one it becomes less about tactics and more about dice rolling, which can get slow. It is difficult to judge this game with just that video.

I agree with Rob, The combat with easy to beat opponent(s) should have a faster dice animation. The waiting delay should be minimal for enjoyable game play.

What's with all these developers who have no idea how to make a game fun or interesting? I had to skip through the first half of this video because it was so damn boring. Then the actual gameplay is so painfully slow. Who wants to see dice landing and then wait and then Oh a Miss, YAY!!! Put me to sleep. Was there even any motivation for playing the game? Was there a story of any kind? Was there anything interesting at all???

Speaking as a beta tester I can say: yes, yes, and yes.

I personally like turn based games. I know there are a lot out there who don't but because of that it feels like there's a lack of them. I'm sure this will be one I give a try to. Still wishing for a port of Final Fantasy 7! Why don't they do that? People jailbreak to play these games! How do they not think, "hmm.. maybe people like this game enough to mod their phones/ipods to play it.. maybe there is people who would pay for it"!!! Come on SquareEnix!!

I found this very very good. I like a lot the battle system. There are lot of action-rpgs. Different games for different tastes. That's a good thing...

Congratulations to the crew of "Rimelands". The visuals and gameplay mechanics look great! I'm rather glad to see that you guys went with a turn based combat system. Brings back the feel of playing RPG's on a table. Good job guys! Keep it up and don't let those who say "nay" distract you too much ;)

I should also mention, the gameplay reminds me of Wolfenstein RPG, in that you explore the levels and the game transitions seamlessly to turn-based combat.

At the beginning of the video i heard turn based. Well im not a huge turn based fan but the way they presented it with how u roll the dice for moves while incorporating more action is a really clever idea. I cant wait till it comes out. Most turn based take a pause from the game completely and put you onto a separate battlefield where this keeps you into the game.

This looks very cool. I got almost a Baldur's Gate vibe from the look of it (though very simplified). Would be REALLY cool if it had a party of like 4 characters, but maybe the next one... :)
I do hope showing the dice rolling is an option. It's a cool feature, but I can see how it could get old waiting for that at times.

I got the Baldur's Gate vibe also, and excitement crawled up my ass and bit me!
Looking very good indeed, well done boys and girls!
