Leaked screenshots indicate that Sega may be reviving Jet Grind Radio / Jet Set Radio this year for the Xbox Live Arcade.

So what, you ask?

Yes, well, we're not sure that means anything for us iPhone-toting gamers, but it does provide some closure to 2008 rumors we reported on that Sega was indeed reviving this classic game. At that time, a trademark filing revived the Jet Grind Radio trademark to include games for "mobile phones" as well as "downloadable game programs" which had given us some hope for an iPhone port. Of course, SEGA's sub-par iPhone gaming releases since that time have left us far less hopeful that we'll see a proper Jet Grind Radio game in the App Store.

Jet Grind Radio (known as Jet Set Radio outside of North America) was a highly rated Dreamcast game with distinctive, visually impressive cel-shaded rendering. There are whispers the official Jet Grind Radio announcement will come at E3 2010. Hopefully, at that time we'll find out if this will be an Xbox-exclusive title or we'll be seeing it grace other platforms.

If SEGA indeed do bring this to the App Store I feel like they will ruin it by making another extremely average port like the rest of their titles (Excluding SMB2) because they don't take our platform seriously.

Jet Grind Radio is one my all time favorite games and this will be a first day purchase on Live for me :-D As an iPhone port I doubt Sega will give this game decent funding and production values to make it a worthwhile purchase. They seem to be more interested in quick ports of their 2D franchises that probably runs on the same emulator.

Fingers crossed for PSN. I remember the articles stating SEGA had lots of plans to re-release and revitalize their old catalogue on all platforms. There was talk of a whole section on the XBL/PSN networks dedicated to Dreamcast games, and also a Sonic compilation for the PS3 (requires the storage space of Blu-Ray) so I'm assuming they don't want to limit their options and start throwing out console-exclusive deals. Of course nothing is confirmed yet, but it'd make sense for SEGA to go multi on everything.

This would be awesome on iPad, and even more awesome if Sega actually had capable developers doing it.

The Jet Grind series is, and I am choosing my words carefully, one of the greatest franchises in all of video games.

That being said, a version was made for the Game Boy Advance and it was awkward and disappointing, in my view. An optimized version for the iPad done right would be astonishing and wonderful. But if they just port THQ's GBA version to the iPhone and iPad, it will be an insult. Here's hoping.

Omg. I had so much fun with this on the Xbox. I regret it that I never played the original game on the Dreamcast. I also wish they would do something with Shenmue!

I've got the dreamcast version, and this would be awesome. But sega kind of sucks now, and they haven't released anything I've been impressed by in a long time - so I hope they don't ruin any more classics with their laziness.

oh holy s@!! I am so stoked if JGR actually makes it to the XBLA. It would be cool if it made it to the iPhone too but if it only makes it to XBLA i'm fine with that.
Now we just need Shenmue 3!
