Turn-based strategy gameUniWar has gone free today. Uniwar came out in mid 2009 and has since seen numerous updates since that time.

UniWar tips its hat at both the StarCraft and Advance Wars series with three playable races that each have slightly different advantages and disadvantages while waging a turn based war on a hex grid.

We loved the game when it was introduced as it was one of the few asynchronous online multiplayer games available on the iPhone. The game now supports push notifications so you know when it's your turn.

If you somehow missed picking up this game so far, now's the perfect time while it's free.

    Got this when it was free a few months ago. I'm a fan of turn-based strategy games and I have to say I wasn't impressed by this game not one bit. It'll probably appeal to some people, i don't know. I'm still waiting for a Front Mission 3 or FF Tactics type of game to come out for the iPod/iPhone.

    • Ranko

      You're a fan of Front Mission 3! I think i found a new best friend... XD

      • Chinito77

        Games like Front Mission will work really great on this. If sales of FF 1&2 continue to grow, maybe we will see a real (Not that corny hills and whatever game) from Square Enix.
        I'm still hoping for a Super Robot Wars game on the iphone as well.

        @Ranko
        Yep, Front Mission is one of my favorite games ever. FF Tactics is my all-time favorite TBS game.
        @Chinito77
        Definitely. The igadget needs more of those long-term TBS games. TBS games fit very well for the igadget, and I'm surprised that until there are still only a few of them. I would have expected the App Store to have as many TBS games as maybe TD games.

    I'm sure the people who are hating this game simply did not learn the nuances of the units and the terrain. I've tried ALL the turn based games on iphone and this one is hands down the best. The push-notification multiplayer is perfect, the three races are balanced perfectly, the maps are varied and fun... IMHO this game alone is worth the price of the iPhone.

    • thebleeptruth

      Not really hating on the game, but I didn't like the overly simplistic graphics and the little maps. And mind you, I did review the different unit characteristics along with the terrain effects. As Pachi has said above, the game can really get boring. Anyway, I've played it only I think 3-5 times, so I'll probably give it another shot.
