Gameloft's 'N.O.V.A. - Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance' Released

The highly anticipated sci-fi action first person shooter N.O.V.A. - Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance [App Store] was released mere moments ago much to the excitement of forum members in the NOVA thread. With a single player campaign that reportedly takes around 8 hours to finish, four player online multiplayer, and online leaderboards tracking performance both in game and (apparently coming soon) on the NOVA web site, NOVA does not disappoint.

We'll have a review out shortly, in the meantime, check out the thread in our forums, with posts regarding the American release starting here.

    So far it's great! I'm actually taking a break to load my Halo soundtracks onto my iPod Touch. LOL, might as well since it feels like a portable version of the game and has in game custom music ability! :)

    Hmm... playing it atm. Not as superfantastic-omg-omg-toast as expected.
    Features that should be there.. Melee, and Ironsight.
    Like the level design though and still... Impressed that this is on an iPhone.

    Good game so far...but god damnit Gameloft! Where's the inverted controls!!?!?!! This is a critical option all FPS games should have, what were you thinking? Or maybe it's available and I'm not seeing this option

      If you mean flipping the screen try Options>Advanced>Orientation.

        I meant inverted look controls. I've been playing with inverted look controls on FPS games since I was little, it's very awkward playing with non-inverted look controls. I can live with it for now, but I hope Gameloft puts inverted in their next update.

    Game runs extremely smooth on my 3GS. I do wish that it had vehicles like Halo does, but considering that Halo will never come out on the iPhone and this is a good clone, it's hard to complain too much. I've not played any other shooter on the iPhone, but I find these controls to be pretty good. Good job, Gameloft :) .

      I think I saw a Warthog-like gunner scene in the trailer. Maybe there’s a scene or two like that? (Or maybe you’re not driving, but gunning on rails a la Quake 4?)

      BTW, what’s the aiming control? Can you put your thumb anywhere, like Elinimate? I greatly prefer that kind of FPS aiming: it’s like a laptop trackpad.

    Just finished 2 missions (1 is training). The game is so damn good, even in training you won't be bored since there are real enemies.

    Has Gameloft ever made a compelling game? The trailer depicts yet another bland and rushed (albeit fairly good looking) cash cow. Am I jaded? Perhaps. But they have the funding and developers to make great stuff. Based on what I've seen though, this will be one more offering that'll bore within an hour.

      Sheesh, enough with this incessant Gameloft bashing already. Your comment can't be taken seriously if you think Gameloft hasn't released even one compelling game. Gameloft may not be the maker of "original" games, but at least give them sone credit for bringing clones of popular games that are reasonably well-made and offer huge bang for the bucks. If the original makers aren't going to bring their games to the app store, then I say more power to Gameloft.

    Wow...This game feels like a steal at $6.99!! Really this just might be the best looking iPhone game I've ever seen! Just the level of polish that went into this thing is amazing. Yes, it's a shameless Halo clone...but it has just set the bar for iPhone games to come.

    I'm glad I caved in and let the hype get to me. I'm not even a big FPS fan but I love this game. The controls are miles better than Eliminate... I don't feel like I'm fighting with the game. Everything works like it should.

    Seriously it's 1:55am and I'm tempted to stay up all night playing this. Bravo Gameloft! If Microsoft was smart they would have them make a Halo game for the Zune HD (Since Microsoft wouldn't make a game for the appstor). Give them a bigger budget and a little more time and they could make something great. This game is already great but I think they could do even better.

    Anyway I'm done gushing...

    This is no doubt worth the price. The single player is of a quality of PC FPS of around 2001-2002, the controls are just great (except for some occasions where the movement virtual joystick doesn't get caught and does the look-around movement instead). Playing it on good old iPhone 2G, the frame-rate is almost always satisfactory, not perfect though.
    Regarding multiplayer, it's a huge advancement in comparison to MC. I have experienced quite a serious lag right after joining, but then everything kind of sorted out.
