199856Secret Exit has discounted two of their games as a celebration for both titles being featured by Apple.

Zen Bound is their premiere gaming title that was released in February. It has also been listed amongst Apple's Best Games of 2009. The game is a calm and meditative puzzle game about wrapping wooden sculptures with rope. It's definitely a differnt sort of experience but one that we loved. A lite version of the game [App Store] remains available to try, but the full version has dropped to $1.99.

Stair Dismount was their followup title that we described bordering on toy more than a full game in its current form, but done in their usual polished style. Stair Dismount has been discounted to $0.99 temporarily, and a submitted update brings global high scores as well as new levels.

New levels in the 1.2 update of Stair Dismount

I had low expectations of Stair Dismount, and tried it for the heck of it for a buck. I find it strangely addictive and actually fun.

And my wish list—something to compare scores, and more levels—is coming true :)

Yay new levels and highscores! Can't wait!

I hope Zen Bound would get new content too...

  • polyplay

Zen Bound remains one of the absolute best things about the iPhone.

It has understandably drawn some polarized reactions, but for anyone who reads the concept and thinks "that kinda sounds interesting," there really is no reason not to get it now.

I could have sworn the devs promised not to put Stair Dismount on sale this soon...

Isn't a 3GS version of Zen Bound coming out? Is that why they are trying to discount it?

    • http://www.secretexit.com Frand

The new version of Zen Bound is still long ways off. Development will be completed some time in late February or early March 2010.

      • ZildjianKX

Thanks. On a side note, is there a reason that Zen Bound is published by Chilingo, but your other games aren't? Is Zen Bound 3GS going to be published by Chilingo as well? I get a little nervous about companies switching publishers after I got stiffed with an un-updatable copy of Critters Crunch.

      • http://www.secretexit.com Frand

Being stuck with a version that can't be updated happens only if the publisher changes for an existing game, and it's re-uploaded to App Store as a different product. We haven't done this with any of our games.

'Zen Bound 3GS' is a working title for a new game that's in development, and its final name hasn't been decided yet.

The game will be published by the first big publisher to pay us millions of dollars for the publishing rights. Or perhaps we just have to self-publish ;)

This game is so much fun for 99cents! I love the polish and it's just really fun to come back to and play with unlike some of my other quickly deleted 99cent apps (*cough cough* high hippo drive geospark). It's too bad they didn't launch the game at that price because it could have been a top selling app.

    Bitter
bought dismount on launch on the back of zen bound and
some clips. Immediaty disapointed. This price drop is a
kick in the balls and a pinnishment for early adopting
and a good reminder NOT to buy apps on launch day anymore

What happened to the reduced day one price.

I suppose stair dismount bombed and so they are trying to cut their losses.

Truth is though that it's not even worth it if it was free. It's one of those apps that just wastes space and you never ever play.

    • http://www.yourpersonalrobot.com your personal robot

That's your opinion. And I'm glad there are a lot people with a slightly different one ... :)

Oliath, do some friggin research before buying anything. If it doesn't look like your type of game, don't buy it, because no matter how great they are, you wouldn't like it. The general consensus is both games are fantastic.

I myself know I don't like FPS, so no matter how great Modern Combat or NOVA is, I won't buy it and then whine and cry for only a few bucks.

Btw, I feel sorry if those few bucks are all you earn this month.

Hhhm.. still is too early too buy.. I'll wait until the 20-something and they'll probably give it away for less or hopefully free.

All these "Limited time" sales just make me not-buy anything :(

I'm really glad I tried the free Mac (PC/Linux) version of Stair Dismount before putting out any money for the game on the iPhone. This "game" will last you 4 or 5 minutes, tops. It's exactly what it looks like - you push the dummy down the stairs and see what happens. I guess I just don't get it. The thought of spending money on it? Astounding.

Zen Bound use to have a Lite version. What happened to that? It's another game I was glad I could try for free first so I could save my money. It is a beautiful application, yes, but again it's exactly what it looks like: you wind a string around an object. That's it.
