Appvent Calendar 2009 Unveils 33rd Division as First Freebie
posted by Eli Hodapp on December 1st, 2009 11:21 AM EST in Free, Games, Sales, iPhone games, iPod touch games
From now until Christmas Eve, Blacksmith Games' Appvent Calendar will be revealing a new game that can be downloaded for free each day. Modeled after holiday advent calendars, each of these games will only be free the day they're revealed, so be sure to check back often.
The first freebie is Craneballs Studios' 33rd Division [App Store], a line drawing stealth strategy game set during World War II.
The goal is to guide soldiers, medics and sergeants entering the battlefield to each of their designated destinations without being seen (shot and killed). This is done by drawing a course across the battlefield (Flight Control style) in and among obstacles and roving patrols.
You can read more about 33rd Division in our review, but since these daily free games are a limited offer I'd suggest downloading the game as soon as possible if you're at all interested in it.

Thanks, Blacksmith Games, Craneballs Studios and future participating devs!
this is really great. thanks toucharcade for the hint!!!
why not make all the games free and make jail-breaking legal?
I hope you're joking.
Jailbreaking–despite the name– is NOT, never was, and never can be illegal. The only thing you are "breaking" is Apple's terms of use, which is certainly NOT the law.
So I can jailbreak and not go to jail? Like some companies sue for downloading torrent cant I get sued for getting illegal apps?
@John: Sigh… Just jailbreaking your iphone can never be illegal, but downloading and using cracked apps IS illegal.
To clarify further: there a lots of legal apps available that enhance the iphone's functionality. But most of those will never be allowed in the applestore (because of the tight API rules Apple enforces), so in order to use those (mostly) free tools you need a manner of installing them. Jailbreaking lets you do that.
But yes, cracked apps can be installed on jailbroken phones, but it is illegal to do so.
Terms of service and end user license agreements constitute contractual obligations when using the products to which they apply. If you use the iphone OS on your iphone, you are breaking the law.
That site is not working for me.
Been looking at this app. Instant download.
Is the website working for anyone?
yea page doesn't work right now "error, forbidden"
Sorry 100.000 Pageviews are too much in 12 hours for the server, we move now to another server
Sadly, I get the same forbidden error message as well.
"why not make all the games free and make jail-breaking legal?"
You start… Spend a bunch of money and time making a really kick ass game, then let us all have it for free. It'll be sweet!
Free games aren't nearly as cool when you can't download them.
You can download the game, even if the advent website isn't working
. The link is in the post!
Second day and the website is down. This has been already a massive success and the guys at Blacksmith games didn't expect that they would have to move servers. Hopefully the move will be smooth, but what about twitter releases?
the server is working again! New game will be revealed as soon as its free in the Appstore
Still very slow for me – keeps timing out. Maybe an even more powerful server is required?
Yeah, I can't get into the site either. Anybody know what today's game is?
I still can't get into the site — hitting 403s.
However, it looks like today's game is TriDefense.
