The folks over at winandmac.com recently had the opportunity to sit down with a few people from Apple and have a look at a number of upcoming iPhone games and apps.  Among them are two titles we've recently had a look at in "upcoming" posts: THQ's Star Wars: Trench Run and Skies of Glory from SGN.

Have a look at the gameplay videos they were able to capture of these upcoming titles.

Use the Force to overthrow the evil Galactic Empire as they attempt to destroy the small Rebel base on Yavins jungle moon.

As part of the Rebel Alliances Red Squadron you dogfight with TIE Fighters above the Death Stars surface before heading into a trench where you are inundated by cannon fire. Dodge obstacles, and stay out of Darth Vaders sights as he tries to gun you down before you have the chance to fire your proton torpedoes into a thermal exhaust port the size of a womp rat. If successful, a direct hit will cause a chain reaction that destroys the Death Star, thus saving the Rebel base from impending doom.

Skies of Glory is an aerial combat game much like F.A.S.T. but set in World War II with various terrains including mountains, deserts, and sea which are said to showcase the classic views of WWII air combat. The game will support both local Wi-Fi battles as well as online battles around the world.

Also demonstrated was the upcoming Harry Potter: Spells, a game that turns your iPhone into a magic wand and allows for real-time player-to-player duels utilizing 14 spells, each summoned by its own particular hand gesture.  The hands-on video of this one can be seen here.

star wars seems like you're flying down a straw and bouncing off the walls, passing at any price.

sky of glories (name should've probably been "skies of glory") looks fun though. will pick it up once it hits 99.

SW: Trench Run isn't looking all that wonderful. Aside from the game's narrow focus, the X-Wing never really moves/tilts. The camera is such that the X-Wing stays static while the scenery moves around it. Very strange and not that compelling to me.

OTOH, Sky of Glories looks great. I'm a big fan of flight sims - WW I & II in particular...plus I'm a pilot! So that looks like a buy if the price is right. :-D

SW: Trench Run looks absolutely boring, even those 80s arcade games had more different missions. Because of licensing costs, i don't think that SW will be cheap enough to be worth it.

BUT... if there's one Star Wars game, there could be more in the future...
Think F.A.S.T. with X-Wings and TIE Fighters, that would be cool.

I believe, correct me if i'm wrong, that sky of glory is free with dlc

DLC ? I hope not, eliminate was a good example of what not to do. Hopefully DLC of that type will be self Eliminating.

How about a port of the old vector based Star Wars Arcade game from Atari. That would be sweet! This one, sadly, looks like junk.

Trench Run looks pretty cool, being able to use the Force is a nice addition and stops it from being a complete clone of the old Atari game. It's a pity they didn't also show off the other level from the trailer where you're dog fighting with TIE fighters above the Death Star.

I'm not sure how you guys are passing judgment on the Star Wars game based on a lame 20-second clip, but I don't think you're being fair. The "official" video is longer, and shows more modes of gameplay, mirroring the air battle from the movies before going into the trench (just like the 1983 Atari arcade game).

A static camera with the scenery moving around it is what you would see in a REAL plane, too, ya know. And there's a cockpit toggle, which I like a lot.

The price has been announced at $4.99, and supposedly the game has been submitted to the App Store. I'm getting impatient waiting for it because I think it looks cool. I'm always up for a good Star Wars game with spaceships instead of the Jedi stuff that is in everything for the last several years.

its 20 seconds, but first impressions count, too many other games out there eager for a shot at my 20 seconds of attention :)

maybe the reviewer thought those WERE the best 20 seconds of the game...

I think the main issue here is that it's impossible to play the Star Wars game with someone filming over your shoulder. The game play is actually very fun, I've had the pleasure of trying it.

SW looks cool to me. I'll have a better idea once I play it. Hopefully there will be some variations to the game instead of just trench runs. This seems like it would be a good level for a full fledged star wars game.

Wow- that SW title looks incredibly lame considering the huge amount of cool Star Wars themed games over the years. How cool would the X-Wing game from the mid-90s with multiplayer support have been instead? Or even the Rogue Squadron rail shooter? Or Star Wars Arcade? Sad they waited so long to offer a SW iPhone title and the one they come up with looks so cheesy. Well at least it's not "Jar Jar in Roadkill of the Sith" or whatever...

Skies of Glory looks Great, Trench war on the other hand needs to offer more.

Ah! Rogue Squadron! I have it on the game cube (actually I play Rebel Strike III since there you can replay RS coop!) wonderful game. I didn't know the trench run was already playable on Atari...then...! Nice! I hope we get more flying SW games I really love it and the accelerometers could control the ships well (don't have any fly-games). If RS were on iphone with good gfx and frame rate I wouldn't mind parting $20 for it!
