True Axis has released its much anticipated Jet Car Stunts racer which has been described as "a fun, over the top, 3D driving game, with massive jumps, mid-air hoops, floating platforms, spiral roadways, outlandish maneuvers and impossible environments." The game offers two modes of play:

  • Platforming - the player maneuvers the car from roadway to roadway, performing connecting stunts to reach the finish line.
  • Time Trails - the player races around stunt-filled circuits to beat the lap records.

Here's a video of the time trial mode:

Reader impressions are trickling into the forum. We'll take a closer look soon, but our first impressions are positive.

Just played the first set of levels and nothing is missing from this game. The only thing it could use is a trackmania-esque online multiplayer where everyone races on the same map for the best time at the same time. But one word sums this game up right now. Amazing

I had such hi hopes but the game is impossibly unforgiving. No shadow under the car so impossible to judge how high you fly and improve. Touch an edge at speed and you careen off. Nice looks huge potential, unfortunately 1 out of 10 on the funometer as is.

I wholeheartedly disagree with the difficulty criticisms. There is a reason the limit on retries is 10. Try, try again.
Careening through the finish after a section that you've been up against more than a few times is an incredible thrill. This game is challenging, devious, and beautiful.
    Mirrors Edge on wheels.

Yep each to their own but any game where you can have a faultless lap then barely touching the edge flips your car could stand some difficulty balancing. That's not to besmirch their accomplishment - sure is pretty and steers well - but the best racers have some wiggle room built-in.
I'm sure we'll see 1.1 come out pretty quickly.

    • TrueAxis

It may seem like the game is hard to begin with... But once you get out of the Just Learning levels and progress further then go back to the earlier levels you will find them so easy to do. All good games are worth putting the effort in for the reward of playing. Also, play around with the tilt sensitivity and adjust it to your playing style.

Great little game, and a steal at two bucks. It doesn't seem like all that long ago that we had to spend $60 for thrills like these.

@Chang ..dude, I totally disagree with ya. This game rocks. It's like Stunt Car racer on steroids, and definitely has shaded of Track Mania (especially with all those tracks where your car merely falls off at the end.)

IMHO Stunt Car and Trackmania fans should definitely be checking it out. (If you're not sure if you're a Trackmania fan, it's free on Steam. Try it.) :)

Okay.. Gotta get back to some Jet Car now. (I just disintegrated my car on an arch. Wicked.) :)

Fantastic game. Tilt steering works great (you don't miss physical buttons or a D-pad at all). It's fun, beautiful and challenging. I think it definately caters to a more hardcore audience and for someone like me, who normally prefers dedicated gaming platforms, that's good news. Also the air brake sounds awesome ;-)

This game is incredible! Yes, it could use some tweaks when it comes to rolling off the edges. But we are also just learning the game.

At $1.99, True Axis is going to sell a ton of these. The physics are amazing and it has a great sense of speed.

In the future I'd like to see an upgrade to add the motion blur for iPhone 3GS / iPod Touch gen 3. Several newer racers are implementing this and I think it would fit in perfectly with this game.

They did not add stunt-tutorials following a strange strategy to keep the price down. To me this is a warning, cause making patches and free content-upgrades is expensive, too. And I think it's somewhat strange, I have to go by trial and error to find out, how a game works.
Nice indeed, to learn, reloading is that fast - I'm sure to me reloading the same stuff again and again would be three quarters of the gameplay anyway, if the steering is a unforgiving as others say.
I'm not going to pay two bucks, 'cause that would be "a bargain, a steal"; to me a bargain would have meant to pay three to five bucks for a refined, complete and polished game.
By the way: Why do that many positive comments in the other discussion use the word "steal" again and again? The writer should have had more fantasy.

    • luketrueaxis

One of our goal was to make the best value for money driving game on the iPhone. We wanted to make an very high quality buget game. To do this, we focused on putting all our effort into the parts of the game that we thought gave the most value, like trying to do the best controls driving controls todate, and the smoothest frame rate possible, nice physics, leaderboards and interesting levels.

Somepeople like tutorials but some people hate them. In this case, we felt that a tutorial may not be appreciated enough by most of our audience. But, on reflection, I'm not sure if that was the best decision or not. Thats one of the reasosn why we made a tutorial video while the game was in submision.

Sinse it sound like you already read my post, I assume that you already know about the tutorial video. For everybody else, look it up on youtube, or check out the link to the forum in this article

I was way to harsh! There is no function to edit... otherwise i would have corrected that comment, by now. There You see - missing functionality.

Your game surely is worth the money. Compared to other games in his category of pricing it is high end. I'm just sorry, those few percent to make it a real premium game are missing.

I will not go on posting on Touch Arcade, anyway. They don't like my comments.

I waited for this a lot and nothing went wrong in this game! 9/10 for me!

I think a trackmania nations like game is possible with this graphics engine and gameplay, the only thing that may corrupt this is the hardware, I think only the iphone 3gs can handle more cars at the same time.

i just bought this, have played it for about an hour non stop now, and i like it a lot. You get a lot of action/adventure/speed for how little this costs.. the gameplay is solid and the graphics are smooth, but i have two suggestions

    1. add shadow to underneath the car
    2. make a non-accelerometer option for steering!!!!!!!!

other than that awesome awesome awesome!

I really like the game but it really needs a vd-pad, a track designer and better tilt controls.

Also when using my BT Headphones there is a 1-2 second delay in all of the audio. It is very annoying. Normally games have a .5 second delay or better.

    • sk8erdude50

      probly ur earphones

      • Josh

it cannot be since other games have a very short delay that is not annoying. I am talking a 1-2 second delay in this game. Real Racing has the same delay as the iphone playing just music which is about .3-.5 seconds.

    • luketrueaxis

We have never noticed any delay in the sound at all on anydevices or firmware we have tested.

If you can tell us which device you are playing on, we will investigate this.

      Thanks.

      • Josh

I do not know what was causing it but it seems to have went away since yesterday. If you still need to know I use the following.

        iPod touch 3G 64GB
        Firmware v3.1.2
Sony DR-BT21G Headphones using the iPod's Bluetooth

Well, now that it's finally come up, I'm glad I missed it the first time around. Plenty of speculation and whining and you haven't even tried it. You, sir, are a true product of the internet.

This is really a great game !
Ever played racing destruction set in the 80's on C64?
This is a hell of a flashback. You drive your rocked fueled stunt car thousands of miles above the ground and try to jump and speed from platform to platform using only the minimum of your limited rocket fuel.
Miss a platform and fall for miles into ... well, certain death.

If the makers would implement 2 player bluetooth play I would pray to them 5 times a day. If they would give the cars a single "push laser" to annoy each other. I would erect a golden statue for the prigrammers. Top it with a track construction set and I will faint.
Great game already! Hope to see more put into it. This one deserves to be in the hall of fame of the iphone.
    Grab it !

Absolutely amazing game, great controls and graphics. I bought it immediately as it was out. One thing that I would really appreciate in the next update is Accelerometer Calibration option since my (and many others) iphone has accelerometer that is not completely balanced. Almost all games I have have calibration option which makes it even more enjoyable.

    Thank you

Oh, this game is so amazing. seriously, how the hell do you manage to get this many polygons on screen, have these physics, and still stay rigid at 30/60 FPS? The levels are epic, and the jet car itself looks incredibly cool (nice, very nice lighting).

Next step? on-device level editor that compiles the light maps itself (even if it takes an eternity), online portal for sharing maps (these two things are what makes trackmania so addictive - there's literally thousands of maps - for free), and maybe even some sort of multiplayer.

So I bought your game to my 3G. It's amazing and my brother think that too and he wants it on his 2G. Last day it run perfectly, but now it crashes when it loads the menu. I read that it's got some problem with the sounds on 2G, but this 2G's silencer broke down(so U can not silence it). I tried what U say, so with headset it works, but a littlebit uncomfortable always playing with headset...so when do U want to fix it in 1.1?
