12632_171468302345_46940027345_2789108_6658088_nAuditorium is an abstract Flash puzzle game which shares a lot of gameplay elements with the various games on the App Store that utilize the gravity of objects to change the path of other objects on screen. Instead of guiding rockets or spacemen around the screen as in G [$1.99] or Gravity Sling [Free], in Auditorium you have to guide a flow of light particles in to the audio containers on the game board.

Each level has a different set of movable pieces that all have different effects on the flow of these particles, from simply controlling its direction, speed, or even attracting or repelling the flow. The early levels start in grayscale, but quickly make way to vibrant colors and different audio containers that can hold each the various particle colors.

The game itself is so unique that it's extremely difficult to describe. Thankfully, there is a free demo that only requires Flash to play available at PlayAuditorium.com along with a whole slew of videos on YouTube showing how to solve the various levels in game such as this one below:

According to EA Mobile's Facebook page, Auditorium is coming "Fall/Winter 2009" and will have 25 levels played through 5 acts.

I played this all the way through on their web site a year or so ago – beautiful and innovative game. There was some other game that came out a month or two back for the iphone that was similar, but didn't have the music element (which makes a big difference IMO). Not sure if I'll get this when it comes out, simply because I played it through already, but maybe. Highly recommend it though if you like relaxing, thought-provoking, puzzle/music games.

Isn't this like Light Jockey? Which one copied the concept?

      I rather not found out.

Yes, that's the one I mentioned in my post above, but Auditorium has the addition of music – each one of those boxes with the horizontal lines (like a volume level) is musical phrase/instrument generator. Get them all lit up and you get a short looped sample of music that matches the theme for the game's phase you're currently playing.

      Auditorium came first.

I think Auditorium came first, I played it online a loooong time ago.

Genesis is the game that is based on auditorium. Earlier lightjockey was released but did not have the audio element which is an integral part of the game. Light jockey has since been pulled from the store. Genesis has a problem where audio doesn't work after one of the OS updates. Apparentle it has been fixed, but according to the developer EA is threatening to sue them so they have to make some changes to the game. The dev was vague about the date of the update. Now I understand what the problem is. I really enjoyed Auditorium but 25 levels is not that many. I also hope that it doesn't have any bugs on release. EA are notoriously bad at supporting their games. I really like the puzzles offered in Genesis and Flash Version of Auditorium but there need to be at least 50 to make the purchase worthwhile. Light jockey had a large number of puzzles. With 25 the game will be over before it starts. Those puzzles are not that hard to design. I don't know what their problem is.

Auditorium came first. This is a day 1 buy for me, I couldn't stop playing the flash version.

Interesting. Reminds me of Enigmo a little too.

FYI. "Light Jockey was fun, but it was not awesome. I've been in contact with Will and Dain from Auditorium to see if we can make something better."

Hi. I'm the developer of Light Jockey. LJ was pulled from the app store after a Cease and Desist from EA. I've been thinking about open sourcing it.. what do you all think?

  • Mark says:

I've seen that this is coming to PSN so I can play on a tiny screen or a big tv. I'll take the tv. I paid for the full site version also.

@Jason – open source what exactly? If their threats were enough to get it pulled the changing the license won't make it any different surely?

Am I the only one that remembers the pulled "Light Jockey"? Awesome stuff back in the day. 3.0 broke it all to pieces though, and its pulled, so it's effectively dead.

Reminds me of Music Flux which has been out for 2 months.

  • Alexandre says:

It's very strange but interesting. I'm following this game :)

  • Noah says:

Well, I just played through 13 of the levels on the website in about 10 minutes… so even if the levels get harder as you go, I would expect to finish everything in under an hour.

If the game costs more than $1, I won't be buying it…

Looks to me like they ripped NANO off?

  • Bagofbeef says:

    Totally Rad.
