Ngmoco's widely anticipated titles Eliminate and Touch Pets have both been approved by Apple for inclusion in the App Store. Ngmoco announced tonight that both titles will be free to download, but that will see an initial launch in Canada before spreading to the rest of the world.

The reason for the beta Canadian-only launch is to make sure they have enough server capacity to handle the load for the worldwide launch.

Official threads for Eliminate and Touch Pets have been started in our forums:

- Eliminate – FREE 4 Player Online FPS: LIVE IN CANADA
- Touch Pets Dogs – FREE social puppy game: LIVE IN CANADA

The games have not quite yet propagated into the Canadian App Store but we'll post the direct links here when they do.

Canadian App Store: Eliminate Pro, Free, Touch Pets Dogs, Free

I'll download Livefire when it hits the US. No way in hell I'm going to pay for the DLC though.

    • Gigidey says:

      Sorry, I meant Eliminate.

This Pay as you Play pisses me off, I wish they would just implement something different, like breaking cracked versions from online play or something… I guess its okay but i really dont look forward to dropping more than like 5 bux on an app

Also, it’s not pay-as-you-play. Payment lets you earn powerups/upgrades (whatever they call them) faster. But as I understand it, you can play—AND earn powerups more gradually—without paying. Many will do so, you can be sure—so even if you don’t pay, I don’t think fairly-matched opponents will be hard to find once the player base has had a few days to grow.

As for me, even if I decide I don’t care about how quickly I accumulate upgrades (who knows)? I will still want to pay something for the game I have received. We’re not talking about huge amounts of money. If I sink $10 into this game over the course of my initial play, it will be a steal compared to a PSP or DS game.

I think the main thing is WHAT are you paying, and what do you get?

It doesn’t make sense to say “never pay for DLC”…. every iPhone game IS downloaded content anyway.

I’ll happily pay for a game that’s good, and I don’t care whether I pay it up front or via the DLC system. Actually I do care… the DLC system seems easier on the user and more flexible.

I’m looking forward to both of these after reading reviews… but Eliminate FAR more than Touch Pets :)

I didn't say I'll never pay for DLC (I bought a few song packs in Rock Band just a few days ago actually), I just don't like the system they ise for Eliminate.

I'm not to hyped for this game. The gameplay videos do nothing for me…

  • Noah says:

You can easily create a Canada iTunes account and download all the "free" apps you want. BTW…

  • dumas1000 says:

It's the spam-bride thing that gets me. You agree to accept various forms of third-party spam in exchange for "free" battery recharge packs, if you don't want to pay .99 for the recharge packs. That's shady, to say the least. Then there's the fact that your free energy pack will likely last around 10 minutes, or the length of a single COD match. Then you must wait 80 minutes for it to recharge.

Anyone who chooses to buy packs and wants to play this game with any degree of seriousness, may very well have to purchase 1 pack a day. You could be spending $30 a month on this "free" game, concievably.

I'm a casual iphone gamer, so i'm not too worried about it. Any level of dedication towards Eliminate will require a minimum investment of $10 a month.

It was Ngmoco's decision to debut this game in Canada only. It will likely be a few days before anyone else will be able to play it. This has nothing to do with Apple anymore. It's all in Ngmoco's hands now.

    • Adams Immersive says:

Correct me if I’m wrong, but the “packs” let you EARN additional powerups, but the powerups you then earn you get to keep and use without limit forever.

So even if you want free and ad-free, you don’t have to wait 80 minutes to play, nor even to use your powerups. Play all you like and keep using your powerups. You just won’t earn NEW powerups until the 80 minutes (or whatever) are up.

There’s no need to continually be earning NEW powerups—at some point you can be happy with what you have, and the game will match you with others fairly (in theory).

Meanwhile, even if you decide to pay a little to earn powerups faster just at first, I have NO objection to the developers being paid for their work. Especially if they’ve let you try the game for free first.

Maybe no one on this site does (including myself) but I'm to have to essentially give up my touch to my kid sister and use my iPhone only for Eliminate and Doom.

  • Elijah says:

    W00t. CANADA!

  • dumas1000 says:

the spam is not the Plus+ network. The spam is, for example, if you agree to sign up for a netflix trial, Ngmoco will give you a free energy recharge, which would normally cost .99. But its not free. you accepted a form of spam to get it. And you can only earn experience from the matches taht you play if you have energy left in your account. If the energy runs out, you can still play, but you can no longer earn experience/level up/purchase upgrades. You're energy was supposed to recharge once every 90 minutes, for free. But if you wanted it you recharge faster, you had to pay for it. But I saw someone on the forum boards saying that it's more than 90 minutes. It's a lot more. He said it was like 220 minutes. That's like 3 hrs and 40 minutes. Perhaps he was mistaken though.

But no, one way or another, you cannot play ranked matches without energy. Energy must be purchased (or you accept the spam, or you can wait for it to recharge on its own, over a protracted period of time) and it must be purchased with real money. There's nothing you can do, in most cases, to earn it within game. You want it, you have to buy it. Perhaps they will have tournaments and give energy away occassionally. That'll be a rarity though.

    • Adams Immersive says:

If there’s a type of match (ranked) that you have to pay multiple times to keep playing, then that’s a mistake I think. Are you sure that’s the case? Does a lack of paid energy actually keep a well-upgraded, skilled player out of ranked matches?

Last I heard, “energy” is the only thing you pay for, and it’s only needed (along with some skill!) to earn upgrades more quickly—upgrades which you can then keep forever, so you haven’t paid for something that runs out, you’ve paid for upgrades you keep. True or not?

Regardless, I’ll play it for free, but am only willing to PAY for DLC that I get to keep. (Nor do I mind waiting for a free recharge—I have lots of ways to pass the time :) )

      • Adams Immersive says:

        OK, from this thread…
        http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=31342
…it appears to me that energy gives you the opportunity to upgrade both your gear and your “rank”—but you keep both of those forever and are NOT kept out of a match for lack of energy.

The word “rank” just doesn’t mean exactly what it means in other games (where it’s simple win ratios or skill measurements). That won’t take away the fun of playing for me. But I probably WILL be tempted to buy some faster leveling-up at the beginning (once I’m comfortable with play/controls) and then after that let energy build on its own, happily playing for pure fun the rest of the time.

Epic fail ngmoco. Canada? WTF. Land of pot smokers and draft dodgers. EPIC FAIL!!!

    • snowy2004 says:

Oh your just bitter that you don't have something first. Canada gets continually screwed when it comes to web services. EX.: We can't get Hulu.

So this is just a fun and rare occurrence.

As for "Land of pot smokers," I resent that. It should be "Land of pot smokers and Universal Health Care"
Plus weren't the Draft Dodgers Americans coming to Canada?

  • derf says:

created a canadian account and have downloaded it in 9 minutes, about to play it

  • Kita says:

making the app free and paying for dlc is smart because it fights piracy. I don't think you can get dlc on cracked apps.

  • Rev says:

Ffs, I wish they released it for the rest of the world already.

  • DeVitus says:

The official website says "Arctic facility online". Refers to Canada? :D

  • Adam says:

Woo CANADA FTW! Finally something comes out in Canada before everywhere else, any reason why they chose only canada atm?
