Cause Need for Speed Underground looks way better and by the looks of it Need for Speed Shift will blow your heads off by the amazing graphics we have come to see in screen shots... plus it´ll have cockpit view which is always a plus!!! AND there was no mention on asphalt 5 about online play!!! Gameloft´s lagging it lately!!!! We want online play!!!

The controlls will make or break EWJ. I dont have very high expectations but hopefully they will prove me wrong...

    • noamjamski

Agreed. We all know EWJ is a great game. Will it be playable without a pad is the question. Parts of the original were so hard they were barely playable with a real d-pad as it was!

While I applaud the inclusion of what looks like a Caterham 7 in Asphalt 5, I wish the game looked like more than a Burnout clone.

Hm. EWJ rules but that GUI looks a little ugly to me, not sure why.

...and please do not tell me they've removed the music from Andy Asteroids!

I could give a rat's ass about the graphics in Asphalt 5, and whether they measure up to early screens or not.

What I care about is control. Asphalt 4 had really nice control initially, a "tilt a little to turn a little" method with drifting controlled via "tilt to the extreme in one direction, then the other and ease it" which was stupidly "upgraded" with the last Asphalt 4 update to "tilt a little, go into an uncontrollable drift".

If this sequel controls as Asphalt originally did, great. If it controls as Asphalt did after that ill thought out "update", then Gameloft can go to hell for all I care.

spiffyone = WTF did he just write????

      • spiffyone

I take it English is not your first language.

Simply put: I care more about good controls than I do graphics. If Asphalt 5 controls as Asphalt 4 originally did, before the update to 4 ruined the controls of the game, then it'll be good. If it controls like 4 did after the update then it'll be bad.

        There. Simple enough for you?

EWJ looks spot-on. As a video game developer, when EWJ came out in the 90s, we were all floored at how amazing the art was and how they were able to get so many unique "tiles" and such incredible sprite animation in a 16bit game.

That being said, there has yet to be a decent port of EWJ to any system. Some have "looked" great but the control, for whatever reason, just isn't there.

So, if a d-pad/button-based platform can't get the controls right, I'd be very surprised if it works on the iPhone (although, I REALLY hope it translates because I love this game).

Wow, that Asphalt 5 looks great! I don't know anything about previous screenshots and don't really live my life by previous promises and the like. I take things for what are being presented and it looks really hot!

Looks like Burnout 3-ish. If that's the case, I'm totally in!

One thing people need to realize is that the iPhone is NOT a PS3/X360 or even a Wii for that matter. The level of performance / capability is more akin to a Dreamcast or ... MAYBE a Gamecube... but that would be a stretch.

That said, a Dreamcast is no slouch and to have a Dreamcast in your hand... AWESOME!

And to get a solid Burnout clone, in my hand for <$10!?! Priceless!

Oh and everyone was bitching about some iPhone game not having licensed cars... well all of those cars look pretty licensed to me! And Burnout doesn't even have that (licensors don't like their cars involved in crashes - I know having worked on a couple of racing games).
