Too bad I bought the app and it is buggy on my ITouch 2G OS 3.x. Giant geometric shapes blocking my play screen is no fun.

Schiau Studios has certainly struck a chord with people on this forum ... strong feelings for sure.

I think people are looking for value. I want to play something that is fun, is of good quality for what I think is a fair price. From a developers perspective, that's all well and good until you look back at how much effort was required to create a game on the iPhone (a quality game, that is). It must be frustrating to put a lot of effort into something that gets buried on the app store because of the shear volume of games that are added each week. A quality app can be lost in the shuffle.

In the end, if a developer want's to raise their price in protest, let them do it. If a consumer doesn't want to purchase the app at the high price, so be it. It seems like the developer's main goal is to make a statement. Judging by the passion demonstrated in this thread it seems like they've done that. Will it help change the way games are priced in the app store ... that doesn't seem likely to me.

And still, we've seen plenty of proper ports that cost a quarter of the original's price. I'm not saying I'm on one side or the other, but saying that the iPhone does not have full games is telling a lie. True, the other platforms are ahead; surely, they should as they are more dedicated to gaming.

My comment was, in particular, a response to this statement that you made:

"1) most apps are less than 1/4 gig, how much work and developement did you do. not much. judging by size compared to say 30gigs for gta 4"

You're measuring quality by quantity. I could buy a really huge steak for 9.99 - but if it tastes like crap, is it worth it?

True, this may not be the best game to make their statement with - there are other indie games out there that actually come close to justifying the price tag they've placed on this one and raising the prices on these games would better validate the protest - but I think the statement needed to be made nonetheless. Honestly, I think a standardized pricing system needs to be in place to increase the health of the App store, and I don't think it should be priced by the pound (or gig)...

I apologize if my previous comment came across as harsh - your comments struck a nerve.

Brilliant marketing campaign for a cause like that, but in my opinion SchiauStudios did a big mistake because he did not announce the charity campaign from the very beginning. I don't mind paying even $100 for that game, if this helps that 19yr old girl. I have a daughter as well and I don't even want to imagine what is in her parents mind and heart.

A premium title, takes years to produce with an army of artist behind the scenes. Everything from voice actors, to animators to programers.
You walk into Ubisoft, you see the armies of workers working, you see the end product, you understand why.

Same goes for all game companies.

After production, millions are spent in advertising, in burning DVD and game boxs, trucking the games to store arround the world. Millions more spent on bribing stores to get premium location on the floor and mention in magazines or web sights.

Or, you can spend a few weeks, months, with a couple of people and submit it to the App store.

Thats the difference.
Indie developers, you are looking at this opportunity all wrong. You have a chance, at almost no cost, and with a massive market, to earn yourself a career in gameing. The cream will rise and the cream will make fortune.

But you need to earn that right. There are more fakes and more wannabees here than anything else. This Statement, is by a wantabe who is to busy wineing and not busy enough improveing his art.
At even 99 cents, you can make a fortune here. Dont get me wrong, up to 10$ is reasonable if you produce quality. BUT.
Ubisfoft, Microsoft, 2K, EA etc, they are watching you developers, too see if any of you has a chance for the real big time. I know because I work for a gaming company, not listed,

You want to be a success, you need to make good product. You make junk, you dont deserve success.
Your worried about squeezing every penny you can get out of your market, its called HOTSHOTTING, and it always ends the same way, NO MORE MARKET. People are not stupid, they will not follow crap endlessly.

Back to my orriginal point, make a good product, and charge what you want. Just realise the big boys on the block are happy with 6.99$ to 10$ The indies, with your cost, should be happy between 2.99$ (for a gem) to 0.99$ for a good work. But really, Indies, get noticed by producing gems, dont worry about makeing a fortune, the money will come if you make quality, then we will talk about a nice corner office and a real budget for a tripple A tittle.
