iPhone game developer Meridian is about to follow up their top 10 hit Alive 4-Ever [$0.99] with a followup title that seems to share a lot of the same attributes. Against the Fire! is another dual-stick shooter but set in the city of Waterfront where strange fire ball monsters are causing havoc.

Your character Andrew, a firefighter trainee without any experience, is ordered to stay behind at the headquarters. However, the siren goes off while he is at the station alone and it turns out the alarm is coming from the hotel right next to the headquarters! A huge number of hotel guests are trapped inside the hotel as the fire ball monsters loom outside attacking. Not wanting to stand aside, Andrew has no choice but to rescue them from the fire scene!

Meridian provides the following details about the game:

  • 50 challenging levels
  • Upgradeable items such as fire hose, HP recovery and speed
  • Variety of fire monsters
  • Hidden character to unlock
  • Best time achievement
  • Ranking system for most points

There was a whole lot to like about Alive 4-Ever, so we're anxious to see what improvements have been made in their next title. Fans of Alive 4-Ever shouldn't worry, however, Meridian has already detailed a number of new features coming to their Zombie shooter including a survival mode, new maps and new weapons.

Against the Fire! is scheduled for release in September.

Maybe they should hire a proofreader this time.

I like Alive 4 Ever.. But man, are there a lot of spelling and grammar errors.

I didn't pick up Alive 4 Ever, but I might pick this up :p

looks like a rehash of A4E

Obviously they're using the same engine as A4E, and that's fine, I just really wish they'd pull the camera back down a bit to give it more of a 45-60 degree look at the arena rather than a nearly 90 top-down look.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved playing thru A4E, but the camera made from some awkward moments in not being able to differentiate between grass the character could walk over and trees the character would get lost behind.

Still, I assume this game will be just as entertaining, but I'll probably pass given the content of the game – I got to say, I loved the gore of A4E.

And Dreezix is right, they really need someone to translate the game locally for them. Was it just me, or did the end story of A4E actually end on an unfinished sentence? I swear it was something like "They were looking for a vaccine but unfortunately they never" and that was it. Haha. Still awesome.

The story makes it sound like it won't be multiplayer though. The best part of A4E for me was playing 3 player. I wish they would make A4E2. 30 levels isn't enough!

    Cool.

A cheap version of Alive 4 ever that's for sure.

A flippin Money making scheme! it's exactly the same as Alive 4 ever it's just got cartooney graphics.

  • DannyV says:

Oh boy, another pointless survival shooter…Make a full game people! It's been proven already that they do indeed sell!

For the .99 intro price this will be a instant buy.
