IMHO if not for the difficulty, Fastlane would have been awesome.

If other people don't find it too difficult, then they will be glad they risked the 99 cents.

What lag? What bad sound effects? Are you sure you're talking about the same game here? The only thing that I could fault was the insane difficulty (but then again, I suck at racing games ;)).

Yeah, I remeber Fastlane. It was (and still is) actually a pretty good racing game, and I would buy it if I didn't have it already. It is the nearest thing to Ridge Racer on the iPhone, and the scenery/enviroments are nice (better than Real Racing). I remember being amazed at the graphics when it first came out, and now look where we are ;)

What?

Ass Fault 4 may have had more "content", but the gameplay was complete ass after Gameloft fudged up the accelerometer controls with that last update they made. Used to be tilt a little to turn a little, tilt to the extreme and ease in the opposite direction to drift. After the update it became tilt a little go into an uncontrollable drift.

Fastlane may not have the deep extras system of Ass Fault 4, but it sure as hell has MUCH better controls. And in a racer, controls trump extras.

Fastlane is still the most fun, challenging and immersive racing game I've played on iPhone. While Real Racing has much higher production values and graphics and runs smoother, its AI is unbalanced, tracks and vehicles are rather bland and sense of dynamism is barely there (you can't estimate your speed without taking a look at the speedometer). All the praise heaped on it made me put quite a lot of time in playing it and I've come to appreciate the game much more than I initially did, but the basics of a great racing game are not there in my opinion.
Unfortunately, Fastlane is far from perfect as well with its laggy graphics (especially when driving in tunnels), horrible sound effects, lack of updates and other problems. While there's no doubt Real Racing is the best racing game for demonstrating the potential of iPhone's graphics and it's downright pleasurable to be driving while using cockpit view, it's not nearly as involving and challenging as Fastlane.

Fast Lane Street Racing sucked then and it sucks now. Asphalt 4 was much better in terms of content.

I guess it's time for iShoot to drop to $0.99 as well to compete with Kil.a.ton. At least iShoot had a 11 months run up 'til now. Good for the developer while it lasted.

Fastlane was one of the more responsive racing apps out there. In fact, that was my top racing app... until I picked up Real Racing. If you already have Real Racing, you don't need Fastlane.
