Screen shot 2009-09-05 at 4.08.17 PMAcross from Subatomic Studios I ran in to Sam from InstantAction. He showed me an early development version of a game his company is working on called Flipt. The game plays a lot like Shift, a platform puzzle game where you can shift the game world back and forth from black and white to change the platforms you're running along.

Where Shift had a button to invoke this change, everything in Flipt is controlled via the accelerometer. Both Shift and Flipt are hard games to describe, so check out this video I took of the game on the PAX floor. Thanks to the terrible lighting and being bumped around by the crowd, the video quality isn't the best:

Flipt is still in development, and a lot of the animations and sound are just placeholders. Regardless, it looks pretty cool and we look forward to seeing more of the game in the future.

Kinda like a more sophisticated version of Shift. Nice.

Looks promising, and way better than Shift.

It looks like f*** of a lot of work to do just to play a game, flipping it ALL the time.

  • Blade

Looks like a fun game, but I think having to stop and turn the iPhone/touch back and forth several times a level will get boring quickly.

Fancy version of Shift, and at least in that game the black and white artstyle made things clearer and you didn't have to literally flip the entire device, just press a button and the view flips on its own. Unless htere is an option for that in Flipt this could get old quick. Please relay the info to them.

Yep, it's SHIFT with a brand new coat of paint. I got tired just by looking at that. This is a premiere example of a good idea on paper that will get old really quickly in actual implementation. It will be alright in the first few minutes, then I will say, f*ck it just give me a button to flip the screen.

Is practically equal than Shift but with better GFX and with acelerometer controls.

Use the Acelerometer is good in any cases, but in this is a little dizzy movin all the time.

BTW, is a great game and think will have good sales.

I like the look of it, kinda "Flashback" but this tilting drives me crazy just from looking at it...

I like the tilting aspect. Pressing a button is boring and besides games don't make enough use of the accelerometer. I don't think it'll get old and I'm sure the game will be pretty challenging.

yeah, i've actually played this game myself (friends with one of the developers) and trust me, the turning the phone around doesn't bother you at all, it's a puzzle game so you don't have to turn it around quickly or alot, only at strategic times.

and it doesn't feel anything like shift.

that green flash of light when you turn the screen around is really annoying. I hope you can turn that off when the game comes out.

The constant flipping was annoying in shift. I assume this will be the same.
That said, it does look like an awesome game, I just wont be playing it :P

I like the overall game idea. It’s a interesting change to how the acelerometer has been utilized in other games. Clearly most people here who seem to be commenting don’t understand the amount of Ingenuity it takes to create games like this specially with the limited hardware on the iphone itself.

In short looks like fun I’ll be picking it up when it comes out.

Wow the graphics looks impressive!! Def one to buy!
