Cinematic for Gameloft's Upcoming 'Dungeon Hunter' RPG

posted by Eli Hodapp on August 28th, 2009 1:58 PM EDT in Games, Role-Playing, Upcoming Games, iPhone games, iPod touch games

Gameloft seems intent on completely solidifying its reputation as the unstoppable game producing juggernaut of the App Store. This latest trailer of theirs shows absolutely nothing of the gameplay, but provides the premise for a roleplaying game. Is this a hack and slash like Diablo? A more traditional RPG like Final Fantasy? Or maybe even a tactical RPG like Fire Emblem? We'll find out soon!

The speculation starts… now!

Gameloft's trailers always look good, and there's no way to tell what the "actual" graphics will look like.

I just hope there's a "real" story and not just the set-up at the beginning.

  • supakoopa says:

Well, its from Gameloft, so we know its a knock off. I'm saying either Monster Hunter, or Zelda.

  • Allan says:

I can only imagine what the on screen controls would look like for monster hunter.

  • GodSon says:

After making a trailer like that…Gameloft better come correct.

  • Nielololek says:

I hope it'll have 3d graphics, good story and spells :) Games from gameloft are always cool for me :)

  • Somerandomdude says:

As much as it will probably an action oriented RPG like Zenonia or Zelda, or a hack and slash like Underworlds or Zenonia, I'm hoping for something that the iPhone needs badly, which is a traditional turn-based RPG. Ever since I started buying apps, I've been hoping for a real great Final Fantasy style game, and now more than ever I'd kill for one. The appstore is really lacking in turn based rpg's, with the only 2 I can think of right now being Vay (which hasn't really appealed to me so far) and TNA which has been one of my favorites since I bought it. If we're lucky Gameloft will make one like the original Final Fantasy which I have been playing alot of on my PSP lately.

What is this, Midieval? Hahaha is our hero an undead Fairy? Lmao meh i'd like to see what this about before I get any excitement prepped for this.

    • Loner says:

if you want a good RPG then check out Vay

      • Chad says:

Vay sucks. The graphics are hideous and the interface is horrible. I believe people are looking for something that feels a little more modern with a polished UI.

  • Adams Immersive says:

    Maybe a match-3? :D

  • WUT says:

    I bet it's a kart racing game!

  • Nexus-6 says:

How do they crank this shit out so fast?

  • Griff says:

    Cool new opening.
It's probably "Adventure" from the 2600.
The ducks mostly come out at night….mostly.

  • Yariv says:

now, that looks to me like it's gonna be a TES:Oblivion oriented game.

  • Johnny says:

I'm thinking this is another solitaire game but hoping it's gonna be like Oblivion.

  • SSarl says:

This is a really stupid and badly written trailer for a game with a ridiculous name.

I have hopes for the game, but this was a total waste of time.

  • TomV says:

I'm banking on a Might and Magic view.

  • Seamus says:

The fairy at the end really makes me think that its going to be a zelda ripoff, and not a Zenonia/Link to the Past style birds eye view zelda, but Ocarina of Time style 3d zelda. Gameloft can definitely do it as they just did a 3d gta clone. I think this could be good or bad if that's what it is.

  • CaseyLay says:

It's nice that Gameloft tries to bring console-esque games to the iPhone. EA too. It looks pretty cool, but if it's going to be a 3D action RPG, then I'm just going to pass on this one and get RavenSword.

  • WolfgangK says:

Say what you will about Gameloft, I applaud their investment into the platform. They've jumped in with both feet while most of the larger publishers and developers have taken a wait-and-see approach. They may not hit a homerun every time out, but they're trying to fill genre gaps in the App Store, and at least trying to raise the bar higher for the iPhone as a gaming platform.

Personally, I hear action RPG, in addition to Zelda, I think of a game like Fable…that would be DELISH.

  • xeonmagelol says:

    Where are the japanese developers?!!!!!
    They make the best RPGs.
apple has to get nintendo games…. somehow :p

  • Andi says:

    one word: AWESOME

  • dk206 says:

    …….

    ZENONIA II

  • dk206 says:

    ……

    ZENONIA II

    F

  • President of Earth says:

Gameloft is really kickin' it ;)

  • wortek says:

I hope it's going to be something like Fable! That would be awsome.

  • Noah says:

Alright, my official guess…. Dungeon themed "match 3" game.

  • spiffyone says:

I'll state it one more time:

Legend of Zelda is NOT an action/RPG. It's an action/adventure series. There's a difference.

The game could very well be Gameloft's version of an LoZ game, but in that case it too would NOT be an action/RPG but an action/adventure game.

    Again, there's a difference.

  • Cron says:

I'm surprised no one has brought up Knights in the Knightmare, that was the first thing I thought of after seeing the vid. The game play of the original is perfectly fit for a touchscreen (original was on DS) but using a finger instead of a stylus would make the game play quite hard. I just don't think it will be something like Zenonia, or Zelda.

  • Steve D says:

Gameloft come up with some crappy names, but if the product is good, I don't mind.

  • crishnak says:

If the trailer was a little bit darker, I´d say Diablo…The speaker fits, too, but then again there is the fairy. Gameloft never made a real RPG before, so there is nothing to rely on, so here is my guess:

An Hero of Sparta-like Dungeon Crawler. Not really gloomy at all, but packed with a lot of action and easy to pick up. But it´s definatly not going to be a Zenonia or Zelda-styled game. Never forget they are a french developer, so I bet on a western style game. There are way to many asien RPGs on the Appstore anyway.

Go Gameloft, make me happy! :D

  • Totalsam says:

I applaud Gameloft in almost every facet of development. Cutting-edge graphics? Check. Voice-acting and score? Check. Solid gameplay? Check, for the most part. But for the love of god who's coming up with these title names?

    The most egregious:

    Real Soccer
    Let's Golf
    Castle of Magic
    Gangstar West Coast Hustle
    and Dungeon Hunter?

It behooves Gameloft to put a little more effort into this area, as it would most likely quell their number one criticism: putting out generic carbon-copies of established titles. I know you're not supposed to judge a book (videogame, whatever) by its cover. But when you see a title called Dungeon Hunter, it screams run-of-the-mill, hack-and-slash fare.

  • Seppo says:

This is gonna be like diablo 3
