440812_4In June, iPhone developer Javier Davalos released his real time strategy (RTS) game Quantum Collapse into the App Store. The game was generally well received though the 1.0 release seemed to have some outstanding issues for some players. A recent 1.1 update, however, seems to have made some major improvements to the game for several customers.

Some of the v1.1 features include:

  • Skirmish mode with 11 maps
  • Selection triangle
  • Group Assignment and Recall
  • Performance increase, cutscene improvements

In the meanwhile, Davalos has also released a Lite version [App Store] so you can try the game out for yourself for free. And, for this weekend, he has dropped the price on the full version of the game from $3.99 to $0.99. The developer is said to be hard at work on a multi-player version of the game which is set to be submitted on Monday.

Here's an early developer video of the game (music not included)

Guys, get this game, it's unbeleiveable. This developer puts heart into this game and makes it better every update. Not only are the graphics great, but it has skirmish and an awesome and challenging campaign. Guys seriously, do yourself a favor and get this, it's amazing and a steal for 99c. :D

    Fine!

    Happy?!

I'd hate be the antagonist but this game didn't do it for me. I played the lite version, but it didn't capture me the way Warfare Inc. did. IMO, that is still the best rts in the app store.

Before I get flamed, I can't judge completely as I haven't bought the full version of QC, but still… May be your cup of tea.

I'd recommend getting this now while it's cheap and you'll have a fun time in multi when it's released.

The developer is definitely very active and has a lot to promise to this game.

    Buy today!

    $0.99? Sure, I'll bite…

Just tried the lite versoin. Not for me.

Are you kidding me with this god-awful music?

    @Coconutbowling

I didn't like this game at all either, and I bought it when it cost $4.

I found the developer to be a little over enthusiastic about this game, to te point of antagonizing people who pointed certain weak points in the game (I was one of them).

The production values are terrible, the cutscene images are a complete joke, and there's no point in giving an RTS a zoom feature if the units will look like a blurry mess when you zoom in.

All in all, a lot of enthusiasm from the developer, but not enough know-how to pull it off.

I believe he's working on new graphics, but as far as some of your complaints – it kind of begs the question: Can you do better? Imagine being an independent developer who can program a game but without an art department to rely on for your imagery. What do you expect him to do, really? I think most people can overlook mediocre graphics if the gameplay is there. Some people can't though… and typically those people are the ones who go "Oooo, SHINY!!!" everytime a bigname dev house releases some over-priced piece of junk with pretty graphics. Funny, that.

      • bob says:

the "if you don't like it, do it yourself, do it better, etc" is the lamest reasoning ever…

      • Jakoss says:

what can you do? let's say, join forces maybe?

there are many reasons why programmers don't do art, or artists don't write codes… or at least they shound not try if they can't… ehmm draw a line.

  • CraigD says:

Gave the lite version a go. The graphics are pretty bad. I know graphics aren't everything, but the game ain't for me anyway = /

  • Q says:

The gameplay is slow and pretty bad.
I prefrer 100x a better units and management control than useless zoom control.
I have got some bugs and artefacts btw.

  • Arseinahole says:

@izzy you are truly a troll lol no offense but i think every boards need one so its all good!

  • Geert says:

For the best RTS on iPhone and perhaps anywhere, check Galcon.

  • myrobotwillneverdie says:

This game would be a whole lot cooler if…. THE UNITS WOULD DO AS I COMMAND.

  • jeff says:

I played the lite version and it's a pretty good game for a buck. The graphics are okay and rather a blurry mess than no zooming in at all.
I agree that there should be a better icon as soon as possible. The current one looks terrible!
To me it's definitely worth a buck.
