Apple has started promoting [link] the fact that the App Store launched a year ago this week. The celebration seems to be a bit premature as the official launch date for the App Store was July 11th, 2008. Still, Apple has collected a list of their "favorite" games to celebrate the occasion. It appears the lists are a little different depending on which region you are in. Here are some of the favorite games from the U.S., U.K., and Australia regions:

Some of the UK/Australia specific games are pretty bad picks, IMO.

There were not 50k apps actually in the store but Apple said there were.
They say they are 1 when they are not actually 1.
    Apple. Premature. Typical.

Can't see the point of this though.

  • K says:

How is it premature when it's only a week away? Should they have only promoted a billion downloads RIGHT ON THE DOT too?

Stop being so pedantic and just enjoy what you have here :)

  • mike says:

well, said Mark. i can't see the point of promotion…

    er…

    wait, what?

  • Jim says:

Canada's list is nearly identical to that of the US. The only difference I can see is that we prefer Tap Tap Revenge 2 over Tap Tap Revenge.

  • IzzyNobre says:

Jim, I came to post the exact same thing :)

Hey where is this in the App Store? I can't find it on the homepage of the App Store or anything. The only way to get to it is using the link.

  • OneEye says:

Yay – Underworlds makes the graphic :)

  • videoflyer says:

I don't see what the big deal is anyway. It's just a listing of popular apps – no special birthday celebration prices or anything. Now, offer an anniversary SALE and you've got my interest.

  • Finch says:

woooo my game is on there!

  • Kita says:

I'm just glad that they didn't pick a bunch of high priced apps to increase their profits

  • Galcon Lover says:

What about Galcon?? That is THE best online multiplayer game on there right now, the only game that I have still stuck with over the past 6 months! I get bored of everything else, but Galcon. And yet, so few have heard of it T_T
