Sega's 'Columns Deluxe' Free for 4th of July Weekend

If you owned a Sega console in the 90's, Columns Deluxe [App Store] will be a complete blast from the past. Originally the only game worth playing that I owned for my Game Gear, I've probably spent more time over the years in Columns than any other match three.
Columns has appeared in several classic arcade collection games in recent generation consoles. And the original, as well as its sequels have been ported to nearly every other video game console in one form or another before finally winding up on the App Store.
There's no reason not to take advantage of the 4th of July Sale and download Columns Deluxe while it's free. Although, the experience may not quite be the same as it was on the Game Gear without needing to constantly be swapping through six AA batteries to play for more than an hour or two at a time.

A fun game for its time. I recall sub 1 hour play time on my Game Gear. Finally had to spring for that AC adapter.
I made the mistake of buying this when it first came out just after the app store launch. It's hilariously bad, easily one of the wost iPhone games I've ever seen.
Yes, laughably bad. Accelerometer controls for a puzzle game? A menu that doesn't respond directly to touch? Terrible, terrible music? Yep, it's got all those.
Well, I was appalled by the accelerometer controls for this type of game. However, you can turn those off in the menu, then you get tap to switch positions, swipe to move: much better.
But really, Sega needs to port only Genesis level and upwards games, give us Bug from the Saturn/Dreamcast whatever it was, and things like that.
This a poor port of a fairly ordinary game when it was available anyway.
Thanks to Sega for releasing this classic for free! Turn off accelerometer for less gimicky game play. I love columns cause of the chain reactions it kicks off along with the fond memories. Great to own on my phone.
On the iPhone this games just looks and feels like crap.
Deleted after some minutes. It's ugly, controls are clumsy and there really is no charm at all. It's good, that it's free.
This actually comes with Puyo Pop too, which was a pleasant surprise. The touch-screen controls are not ideal (swipe to move, tap to rotate – sometimes the game confuses a short swipe with a tap), but serviceable.
Deleted in 30 seconds… so bad it smells (and, no, that's not my 3GS overheating)
I used to play this on my Sega Game Gear back in the day so much! It was the pack-in game and as a small kid I couldn't afford any other games. The music alone is enough for MEGA nostalgia!!! Nice that it's free! Thanks SEGA!!!
