Gameprom's Wild West Pinball game is now free [App Store]. It was originally priced at $2.99 and tries to offer a more authentic pinball experience than many of its competitors. The game was very well received and praised for its accurate physics model. The most recent update (1.1) added an improved graphics engine, new icon design and better support for global leaderboards.

Here's our early gameplay video.

It appears the game will be free from now on and support will stop after the 1.2 update. We suspect the price drop is an effort to promote their next title The Deep Pinball. A gameplay video of this new upcoming pinball game has been provided:

The Deep looks neat. Looks more involved than WWP was, which is good. I bought but didn't like WWP too much because it was too hard for fun play, imho.

Now, I am sure I won't be buying the next title. Why bother? I'll just wait until it is free as well.

Seriously, I feel punished for being an early adopter. I understand lowering the price, but not so soon and not so much!

I sincerely hope that you have enough patience. The Deep Pinball will launch by $0.99 price without any future price drops ;)

        We'll see.

what's new, early adpoters are alwyas "punished", especially in technology

      • bobby

Yeah that's the price they pay to play. Duh. :)

I bought Wild West Pinball at its full price, and don't regret the purchase. It's a thoroughly enjoyable game, and I look forward to The Deep Pinball.

However, I'm not entirely comfortable with the idea of developers abandoning their products so early.

WWP was good, but isn't this practically the same game? Perhaps this would have been better served as a paid extra feature with the new 3.0. That way it would be in the same app, and probably generate more interest.

Wrote about this a bit earlier today. Bought it at it's full price and it was definitely worth it then. Get this if you've never given it a shot.

The Wild West theme does nothing for me, but the feel and graphics are great--making it my current favorite pinball game in spite of the theme. The Deep interests me more, so if they wanted to remind me of that, they succeeded!

FREE? ..Im sorry thats really not a good thing..

Ok I LOVED the look and feel of this game and I was more than Happy to pay for this title.

I feel like I have been really let down by the people who have made this, that might sound abit dramatic but...I feel totally let down :( WHY give it away for FREE?????

Your Pinball game is THE BEST out there, i was really looking forward to 'THE DEEP' but as a previous comment has already said, i think i'll hang on this time... Shame really

    • SalsaMD

I assume that this is a promotional price drop to gather attention before release of The Deep. No where to go but free from $0.99. I assume/hope that it will not stay free

    • Arthur

So you liked the game when you paid for it, and they made it free because they have a newer and better one coming out for the same price, and somehow this offends you?

Seriously, think about what you're saying.

Sheesh. Some of you will complain about anything. It's a FREE GAME and you still manage to be personally offended.

JUST ABOUT EVERY SINGLE GAME will drop in price. Any game you buy it for more than 99 cents will more than likely be 99 cents eventually. And if the publisher is feeling generous later it may be free, like this. You should know that by now, and if a game drops a dollar after you buy it you should expect it and stop whining.

Guess what? You're going to be screwed out of a lot more than those 2 dollars in your life. Go to college, you'll see what it means to really lose money on nothing. Just get used to it and move on, or only buy bargain games, but stop complaining.

THESE AREN'T 30 DOLLAR DS GAMES. We're talking about 1-3 dollar games here. I understand being a little irritated if a 1-3 dollar purchase doesn't live up to expectations but that's still just 1-3 dollars which is NEGLIGIBLE. If you can't afford the three dollars in the first place the last thing you should be doing is buying iphone games, just about the furthest thing from an essential item that there is.

    • thebleeptruth

      Right on. I agree 100%.

The only time I got disappointed was with CJS. I bought the game during a time when it was 2.99 (down from I think 4.99 originally), when they said that the sale will end as soon as the major update is launched (which included the map, steering wheel controls, etc.). I bought it without the intention of playing it before the update. I simply bought it ahead of time just for the sale, and then planned on actually playing it as soon as the update was finally launched. I decided to only start playing it after the update because I didn't want my game to be interrupted just in case the major update has some effect on the current game (like what if your progress/scores resets back to zero like iDracula). So then when the update finally arrived, all of a sudden they drop the price to 99 cents, which lasted for soooo long. Like you said that's negligible money I lost, but I just didn't like how they gave the wrong message. I'm sure it was somehow part of their plans all along to eventually do a 99 cent sale, but telling the public (during the 2.99 sale) that the sale will only last until the update launches, in my opinion is a shame. Let me repeat - I'm not complaining with the $2 I lost. I was just disappointed how they handled their marketing strategy.

    • bobby

You're right but are also missing something: Yes, it's not a $30 game, it's a $3 game, but it's still all relative. It is only logical to look at it within the scale of the economy.
What I mean is, when a game that is $2.99 goes to $.99, it has lost ~66% of its cost. That equates to a $30 game being sold for $10. People that paid 66% more, regardless of the item or the cost, will feel slighted. That's just natural when something changes so greatly in its price.

      • Arthur

No. Wrong. That's not a realistic way to look at things, because whether it's three dollars or one dollar it's still a very small amount of money. A twenty dollar price drop is significant, a two dollar price drop isn't.

Look, you can walk around feeling slighted my the publisher all you want, but you either got some enjoyment out of he game or you didn't. Complain if the game didn't deliver what it promised or is just plain broken, but if you paid the price they asked at the time and got a reasonable amount of enjoyment then what's the problem? EVERYONE KNOWS IPHONE GAME PRICES WILL DROP, and maybe you should also consider that this is still a frontier where no one knows exactly what price point will work-- and what works in April doesn't work in March.

Glad I wasted $3 on this. I hardly even played it; it's honestly just not that great. Wouldn't have minded so much if it was free.

    Lame.

This game is nice, VERY realistic but a bit boring.
But for free, everybody should have the still best "real" pinball simulator on their devices.

But also here: Monster Pinball beats them all :) THIS IS FUN! :)

I bought Wild West Pinball when it first came out and is still one of the very few games I play on a daily basis. It's simple but challenging and feels the most like a real table. It was worth every penny, as will be The Deep, I'm sure. When I was comin' up, (way back in the 90s) we'd have to pay thirty or forty dollars for a simple pinball game (like Looney Labrinth!)...99 cents or $3.99 is STILL a total bargain... I can buy a new game every day and still not have enough time to play them.

Great graphics. Overall nice pinball game. I'm still confused on how kill Harry though. And one big thing this game misses - LOCAL HIGH SCORES!!! C'mon?!! That should be automatic. And don't forget name input for the scores. Please please include in next update. Not everyone is into online scoring.

Oh and thanks for making it free!

I'm really loving the graph look of this one but... isn't it practically the same game-play as WWP? It's as if they simply replaced the wild-west elements with ocean-based elements and much smoother graphics. I'm confused why you'd go through all that bother and not make the game much more different. It's a fun, simple game for sure but the constant in-motion viewpoint seems to take away from the experience for me...

Still, doesn't come close to the fabulous Monster Pinball and it's quirky characters and animated effects in my books!
