i was lucky enough to be at this game day. it was my first, and sadly, apparently was the last. peter recently updated his webpage http://lunacityarcade.com with the following news:

"Until further notice I am taking an extended leave of absence from the internet and the arcade collecting scene. I do not know when I will be back online and have taken my website offline until then.

In additional, I will no longer be having open Game Days.

I apologize for the inconvenience.

Peter Hirschberg"

i hope nothing negative caused this, and hope he always does what is best for himself and his family. i can't thank him enough for all he's done for the community, and certainly hope this isn't the last we hear from him.

I didn't know Peter first tried Quartz for the rendering in Vector Tanks. It looked amazing in the preview that was featured here, but I was disappointed with how it turned out on the iPhone. The vector lines were very jaggy - evidently because rectangles were used.

I ran into some of these issues with 3-D Vector Ball. My first go at it was an attempt to create the entire game with GL_LINES and after a couple of weeks of development, I realized simulated vector lines through texture maps was the only way to go. By then, I had seen Wall*E and been inspired by some of the Tron-like scenery and it was no longer a traditional Vector game, at all. (Only in the mathematical sense.) These projects have a way of shaping themselves.

This was my 3rd Gameday event I attended. I drove from NY to VA and met up with my friend from NC. I couldn't believe the passion that Peter has for classic arcade gaming. If you ever get the chance to attend one -- you won't ever forget it.

Should it be "Vector Tank" instead of "Reto Tank"? My Apps Store says the former.

Awesome!! That arcade is a dream, just unbelievable.

Vector Tanks is still the most playable game on my iphone - I look forward to the pre-rendered vectors that Peter spoke of as a future update.

Had to downloaded the 2600 Adventure, after watching this!

Good to hear. I view what Peter is all about as a public service, really. It's really a happy thing to me to know that kids today have a slim chance of seeing what games used to be / what games really CAN be thanks to Peter. And it seems his future iPhone offerings will work towards that same end. I salute Peter.

Thanks for bringing this to toucharcade. The interview was interesting and i did buy vector tanks as a result. Peter is an interesting man and I felt its worth supporting someone who passionately tries to preserve the history of arcade games.

There were so many great games in his collection but I was especially happy to see Escape from the Robot Monsters is in his collection. I remember discovering this arcade game years ago at a deli and never saw it again but my best friend and I played the hell out of it and thought it was really something unique and fun. So i'm glad Peter has good taste :)

Keep it up Peter.
