I love the simply but effective controls, but it does it a bit boring only trying to beat your own hi-score. Being able to see other peoples highscores as well as who is playing near you will give the game much more appeal. I care much more what percentile I'm in than my overall rank (seeing that I have the 3,782nd best score at something is not as helpful as knowing I'm in the top 40% of everyone playing).
