Fishlabs' has updated Galaxy on Fire [App Store] to version 1.1.0 addressing many concerns from the 1.0 release.

The list of changes include:

  • Graphics wobbling bug fixed
  • Difficulty level adjustable
  • Some meshes and texture enhancements
  • Accelerometer controls improved
  • Touch controls improved
  • In-game loading times reduced
  • Lead (aiming ahead) support
  • Save/load games screen enhanced

The game is an impressive space commerce shooter that takes place in a massive galaxy with hundreds of planets and space stations. Galaxy on Fire is said to offer over 20 hours of gameplay.

The original version of the game generally received positive reviews with the exception that some users found the certain levels far too difficult ("impossible"). The developer has addressed this issue by providing an adjustable slider that can bring the difficulty from 0 to 100%. The 1.0 release was set an equivalent of 60% difficulty while the new version is set to 50% by default.

    Beautiful, complex and challenging game!
I absolutely love it. Waited for the update before purchasing.
    Haven't any complaints…just great.

Did Fishlabs make the PocketPC version of this game from a few years back too, or did they just do the iPhone port?

  • CCRider says:

    Thank god for the update!
I was about to throw my iphone out the window with frustration..
Mostly due to 1G slowdowns but also due to my inadequate abilities as a space pirate.

    Great game though…

i didnt find any levels impossible

Pretty awesome game. The update really helped with the weird graphics bugs and the extra loading (got really frustrating)

@Vester, I too never found the campaign that hard either and I had already beat it by the time this patch came out but the other fixes are great to have.

@Sticktron, Fishlabs is the original developer of Galaxy on Fire, its just been out for a few years or so on other mobole phones. They have a sequel in the works, hopefully it can be made more iPhone compatible than this port.

All in all I'm pretty happy with the game. Although the free roaming part after you complete the missions isn't that deep. Just go to each system one by one and do all the missions at each planet until you've done them all. I keep wanting the trading economy and system navigation of EV Nova or Freelancer and the awesome combat mechanics of Freespace2, but hey, its not a bad game and I do keep playing it.

$5.99 when I got games like iDracula and Uniwar for .99c? This thing would literally have to be a Starfox 64 port to pay 5.99

  • RPB1975 says:

How is the replayability? Can you beat it at 50% and then at 70% if you want to?

  • ramon raux says:

Awesome game! A little bit pricey though.

  • ex2bot says:

~20 hours of play for $6 pricey? I've paid $10 ("800 Microsloth Points") for ~5-10 hours of game play on XBox 360 DLC.

    I agree with Vested & ex2bot.

I haven't find and missions impossible (so far at least).

I've paid 15 bucks for games on Xbox Luve that, while great games, only offer 3 to 5 hours of gameplay (Braid is a good example). This game offers a great value and frankly it's a lot of fun!

  • Cam1970 says:

I have found wit the upgrade that he controls are screwy. If you set the accelerometer at an angle then the controls just keep the ship in a continuous loop. If you lay it flat it works but otherwise it is unplayable with the 1.1 upgrade.

  • Matija says:

    @cam

You have to recalibrate your controls, i do it each time i change body position

  • Sevallis says:

I am loving this game. It's like X-Wing Tie-Fighter for the iPhone and the graphics and gameplay are very very good. Thanks Fishlabs for putting out a game that I can't put down.
