Looks like a pretty cool game; the control scheme is quite innovative.

The thing worrying me most is that future games (not necessarily targeting only ngmoco) will try to nickel and dime the consumer, making us pay far and beyond the original prices of the games.

When I hold my iPhone in landscape position with the bottom in my left palm, it seems like it would be easy to have the volume buttons be the equivalent of the A and B buttons on a controller. I'm sure there is some really obvious reason this wont work. For example, I don't know if the other apple touchscreen devices have volume buttons in the same position.

Anyway, if you could get the home button in on the action too, it might be a nice FPS control scheme.

Feel free to make fun of me if I've missed something completely obvious. I realize you'd have to disable the home button's quit app function but it seems that could be overcome by entering some sort of game mode.

@Nexus-6 I'm sure we'll have a lot of different control configurations at the end of the day.

Accelerometer control for looking is actually not as intuitive as it sounds because you are moving a 2D plane in 3D space relatively vs. absolutely - additionally the higher the degree of tilt the more likely screen glare is.

@Neil, why not use the accelerometer for looking/aiming? Is there a possibility that this type of control method could be an option in LiveFire? It would also leave a thumb free for shooting.

When you think about it, the touchscreen is actually MORE accurate than the analog stick used in console (and PSP) FPS titles...at least for aiming. It simulates as closely as possible the feel of mouselook in PC FPS titles. And as anyone with any experience in Quake III Arena and the old Dreamcast vs. PC cross platform deathmatches knows...PC gamers had an inherent advantage due to the accuracy of mouselook.

Movement is the issue with iTouch/Phone FPS titles and there is where the platform is lacking compared to consoles and PSP, but in terms of aiming it's actually better. I mean...hell, even the non-multitouch screen on DS allows for better aiming in such titles than you get with PSP.
